What happened?

Oslo el Gustav is alive and was posing as the new mage assigned to assist the Azur Brigade, but when he discovers that the golden statue of the Emperor has been smashed he loses it, burning up everything in the castle. Shinobu and Jeanne run for their lives as Tsukasa unleashes his ultimate weapon. The nuclear missile strikes and scorches the sky. Surely, nothing could have survived that!

Later, Tsukasa addresses the people and creates the Elm Republic, a nation made by the people for the people, but Gustav isn’t finished and he crashes the announcement. Shinobu and Aoi try to take him down but are only able to crack the crystal that seems to have enhanced his power. He leaps at Tsukasa who manages to shoot it. Gustav plays on Tsukasa’s doubts to poison his confidence before dying.

What did you think?

I feel like this episode should have been far more interesting or at least entertaining, but it really wasn’t. Tsukasa firing the nuclear missile wasn’t a huge surprise as unless you can demonstrate its power, it’s going to be of no use in a negotiation. Still, it was a fairly uneventful attack as Gustav had already killed everyone there. Then, the final battle was also a massive anticlimax.

This series started off with some really interesting ideas and some amazing ecchi moments, but it’s slowly lost the plot and become more and more bizarre. I am glad that it’s over and I would be surprised to see a second season, but stranger things have happened. It certainly has got an endless supply of waifu material, but they’ve got to do something to make the plot stronger.
