Honey Trap Shared House (Volume 1) – We’ve Got Ourselves a War!
What happened?
The first person to move into the Familia Shared House was a spy from the Rus Federation and she didn’t waste any time. After dodging her blades, Hayato was stunned to see that he was standing in front of Seraphy, his childhood crush from when they lived in the orphanage together. He hadn’t seen her since she was adopted and now they were back together with only a gun and a dagger between them. They both tried to pretend that they were toys and both were just trying to be safe. Amazingly, they both thought the other bought their story and moved on to the next stage. Seraphy reported to her team that she wasn’t going to kill Hayato as she believed she could turn him. That called for Operation Honey Trap.
Hayato, however, was a master of resisting honey traps, however, that was because he was saving himself for Seraphy… How could he possibly resist her attempts to seduce him when she was exactly what he had been waiting for? Of course, it wasn’t easy for Seraphy either. She had never had to use a honey trap before and trying to seduce the boy she promised to marry when they were older wasn’t as easy as she thought it would be. Of course, things got a lot more complicated the next day when another person moved in. Maria was a “backpacker” from the United States of Freedia who was moving in for a while. However, in reality, she was working for the CIA and even more unbelievable, she was at the orphanage with Hayato and Seraphy. Having seen what Seraphy was up to, Maria decided that she would out-honey trap her! Things were about to get messy!

What did you think?
This is kind of like an adult version of Spy x Family. Everyone in the house has a secret identity that they are trying to keep hidden, however, everyone else has already worked out exactly who they are, but won’t reveal that they know for fear of revealing who they are. It’s kind of ridiculous that they all think that their secrets are safe, but that’s part of the fun. I laughed a lot in this volume from how insane it is and how brilliantly entwined these characters are… and I’m not just talking about the “sexy accidents”… more about that later.
Basically, if you enjoy rom-coms packed full of fan service then you are probably going to enjoy this. I knew nothing about the series before reading it, picking up the first four volumes because I liked the covers… I know I’m crazy, but that process hasn’t let me down yet! There are also some over-the-top fights, but the main appeal is the honey traps and how all of the girls are determined to one-up each other as they attempt to seduce Hayato while he is also attempting to get them to flip sides. I can’t wait to see how this progresses because the first volume was a blast.

What was your highlight?
Maria has taken an early lead as my favourite character in this series and it has nothing to do with her massive weaponry… well, there’s more to it than that. Maria is a master of martial arts, possessing incredible strength and speed and she uses that in the most meta way ever. Most ecchi stories have a situation where the main character slips and lands in incredibly lewd positions with the girls. They seem almost impossible. Well, Maria uses her speed and strength to engineer those situations. She fell off a ladder and landed on top of Hayato.
When he realised what had happened, she was sitting on his face. He tried to get free, but they somehow switched positions with his hand under her shirt – that’s right. She forced him into an accidental boob grab. Then, when he seemed like he was trying to get away again, she made her other boob quite literally burst out of her top. Suddenly every ecchi series makes a lot more sense. It’s similar to how The Cabin in the Woods legitimised the dumb decisions from every monster movie ever. Maria even used her “sexy accident” ability to block Seraphy’s attempts to seduce him and made an even more lewd situation. Bravo, Maria. Bravo!
