Arifureta: From Commonplace to World’s Strongest (Episode 15) – Burning Light
Hajime arrived in the Dukedom of Ankaji to find the place desolate and deserted. Kaori rushed to attend to the sick while the others looked to create a new water source and fix the old one. Now, they just need Stillstone.
Arifureta: From Commonplace to World’s Strongest (Episode 15) – Burning Light
What happened?
Using their magic, Yue and Hajime built a giant reservoir and filled it with water. Doing so used up a lot of Yue’s energy and she needed to drain some of Hajime’s blood to recover. She also got in a sneaky kiss! With a new water source taken care of, they go to the oasis where Hajime spots something in the water. He tosses in a load of grenades and eventually a slime monster emerges and attacks. It doesn’t take Hajime long to finish that off, earning them the praise of the Duke.
Kaori and Shea have been attending to the sick and are glad to see that Hajime returned in good health. Of course, Kaori is not too impressed with the kissing that she found out from Myu. Anyhow, she will stay behind with Myu to look after the people while the others go to Grand Gruen Volcano to mine Stillstone. Inside, they go deeper and deeper, fighting fire monsters and having to ride a lava stream to the dungeon boss! Let’s get it on!
What did you think?
The animation of the monsters has undoubtedly improved, however, it appears to have come at the cost of the animation of the characters. Too often, they seem to be standing around behind Hajime staring straight ahead as if waiting for a prompt to read their line. No one blinks or does anything. It’s kind of distracting.
However, that’s nothing compared to the constant bickering between the girls as they attempt to prove that they are Hajime’s biggest fan. I’m a big fan of harem anime and this feels completely wrong. The group dynamic doesn’t work for me as a harem. If Yui and Hajime are together then do that and let the others just do their thing without having to score points with Hajime. You can have a party that is mostly one gender and not have them constantly fighting to be the love interest.
It was another distinctly average episode, but after last season, I’ll take average in a heartbeat.
What have you learnt?
So, obviously, Hajime is dead, right? He got hit by a giant white beam of fire/light after defeating the last of the one hundred lava snakes they had to beat. With Hajime out of the way, I’m going to vote for Tio to take over until Shizuku can catch up with them. Maybe now, they’ll all stop fighting over the edgelord! Seriously though, there’s nothing more pointless than having a cliffhanger where it looks like the protagonist has died.
If you want a cliffhanger, and I’d argue at the fifteenth episode, you probably don’t need one, you have to make it look like Hajime is unable to save someone significant. It’s unlikely, but the probability of one of the other characters dying is infinitely more believable. A pointless cliffhanger is worse than not having one at all. I can’t wait to find out that Hajime survived in the first minute of the next episode.

I’ll take average as well at this point and I am very happy that Kaori was split off from the main group for most of it.
For sure. I can’t take the constant bickering about who loves Hajime more. She didn’t add anything to the group which was probably already overblown.
