Harem in the Labyrinth of Another World (Episode 2) – Raising Money
What happened?
Michio has a few things to consider. Firstly, he still needs to earn a lot of money for Roxanne. He also has Durandel which he thinks is probably an overpowered item and if he was to wear it in public someone might try to take it from him. Luckily, he can place it into his items, however, he can’t just walk around without a weapon. That would look suspicious. So, he heads to a shop and buys another sword before heading to the labyrinth.
Once inside, Michio looks at his roles and the skills that he’s acquired with them. He tries a couple out and soon realises that using them drain is MP which leaves him sluggish and miserable. Durandel can recover his HP with every foe he slays, but he’s going to have to be careful for now as he’s still only a level two. He soon runs into his first monster – a Needle Wood. It’s a walking tree and while it might be strong, it’s slow and easily defeated by Durandel. After selling his drops, Michio has barely made any money. Maybe tomorrow will be better.
He heads back to the labyrinth, using a skill to warp him inside. After slaying numerous Needle Woods, he finds a secret passage and follows it hoping for treasure. However, it’s a trap and he soon finds himself facing a horde of Needle Woods. He fights and fights and fights. Thanks to Durandel, he makes it out alive, but he still didn’t make much money. On the way back to town, he encounters a mob looking at a body. The bandits are making moves. Michio realises he will need to hunt bounties if he is to get Roxanne.

What did you think?
This episode was not nearly as impactful as the first one but I think it got a lot of work done. We saw a brief glimpse of Michio in the future with a full harem where he returned to the starter village and discovered he may have a son. I guess we skipped the scene where he hooked up with someone in the chief’s house! Anyhow, the real meat of the episode was about showing us how the systems work. Skills can be acquired by completing tasks that give you a possible role. Michio had been assigned villager, hero, thief, and explorer.
Then we learnt that using the skills drains his MP, making him grumpy and disinterested. That’s a problem if he’s about to fight. He’ll need to find a way to increase his base MP levels if he’s going to keep using skills, which he probably will want to. We also got to see what the grind for a low-level adventurer would be like. He really wasn’t making any more from doing it, which is why he’s going to switch focus to the bandits.
Of course, that will be considerably more dangerous and should provide a lot more action than him cutting down walking trees. I’m enjoying the series so far and am excited about how this develops. It’s already shown it can do dark and sinister so I’m looking forward to more of the same. Throw in some more fan service and we’ll be golden.
