Masters of the Universe: Revelation (Episode 8) – The Gutter Rat

Masters of the Universe Revelation Episode 1 Castle Grayskull

Evil-Lyn is shown the universe by Skeletor, but it has the opposite impact on her than he expected. There is no order. No meaning. There’s only one thing left for her to do!

Masters of the Universe: Revelation (Episode 8) – The Gutter Rat

What happened?

King Randor thanks Teela, Andra, and Cringer for bringing Adam back to him. He even makes Andra a lieutenant in his army. That’s when Queen Marlena shows up and she’s particularly cold towards Randor. Adam asks her about it and she reveals that when he died they pretty much fell apart and have drifted further and further apart since then.

In the dungeon of Castle Grayskull, Evil-Lyn visits Duncan. It seems her purpose was purely to antagonise him, but he flips it and leaves her doubting her role and power. Was that really a wise move, Duncan? She leaves and searches for Skeletor, finding him searching the cosmos once more. He pulls her in and shows her the scale of the universe.

It’s a lot for her to handle, especially now that she can see that there is no meaning to anything. Chaos rules the universe. Their lives are insignificant in the grand scheme of things. This seems to give her the courage to mock Skeletor for using this power just to kill He-Man.

After leaving his side, Evil-Lyn bumps into Beast-Man who tells her to run. He doesn’t want to see Skeletor kill him when he decides she’s no longer got a purpose. However, Evil-Lyn is indebted to Skeletor for saving her life and making her who she is today. That said, she realises that she needs to save everyone from another of Skeletor’s games.

Evil-Lyn seduces Skeletor and gets the sword of power from him. She calls on the power of Grayskull and becomes her own champion. Skeletor slips away, but Evil-Lyn has already begun to change the world by destroying Preternia, freeing everyone from the worry of the afterlife.

What did you think?

Half of this episode was Randor thanking everyone and Adam talking to his mother and Teela. Very little of that was interesting. Thankfully, we had Evil-Lyn to save us from this monotonous adventure. I loved how Skeletor showed Evil-Lyn the universe and it pretty much broke her. Along with Duncan’s words of pity and Beast-Man’s words of encouragement, she realised that she had to take the power from Skeletor.

It’s about time that someone realised that Skeletor was a fool and his constant vendetta with He-Man was never going to end. Seeing Evil-Lyn attaining the power of Grayskull was fantastic. I am in love with that new costume design. One of my favourite things about this series has been the updated designs of Teela and Evil-Lyn. They are spectacular.

What have you learnt?

We saw a brief glimpse of Evil-Lyn’s childhood and that was fairly traumatic. Again, it was rushed and I can’t help but think that an anime series would have dedicated an entire episode to something like that. We certainly didn’t need Randor hugging everyone and Marlena going into the details of their failed marriage. We want to see a world where the parents are so hungry that they are prepared to eat their daughter?

Admittedly, Evil-Lyn did become Aladin for a while there so that was unexpected, but seeing her push back against Skeletor was exactly what we needed. Now, it looks like we’re gearing up for a showdown between Evil-Lyn and Teela. Skeletor showing up to presumably help Adam and Teela seems like a bizarre play by him, but I’m curious enough to see where that goes.
