Harem in the Labyrinth of Another World (Episode 3) – Acquisition
What happened?
Thanks to his appraisal skill, Michio is able to see people’s job status just by looking at them. That certainly helps as he wanders around searching for bandits. Of course, there aren’t any to be seen in the daytime. He even visits the slums but finds nothing. He will need to change his approach and focus on the night. During the night, areas of the town turn into a red-light district, which is where he finds his first bandit.
Rather than attack and kill him, Michio follows him home and finds the bandit’s hideout. He scouts the place out the next two nights, getting a feel for the people there and how they act. Finally, it’s the last night before he needs to make Roxanne’s payment so he heads back to the slum and uses the thief’s bandana to create a situation where he can talk to one of the bandits. The bandit invites him inside, saying that’s where he keeps his money, but it’s obviously a trap.
Michio was ready for it thanks to Durandel. The thief stole Michio’s other sword, the one he left on display and attacked. The fight was over in seconds. Then Michio cut off his hand to claim his Identity Card. He slipped into the back room and counted four more bandits, all sleeping. He crept towards the first bed and killed the first two. The second bandit made a sound and another wandered in from the other room. He quickly beheaded her and then warped out of the room as the fourth bandit rushed him. He waited outside the door and then took his chance when it came. He did it. He felt sick to his stomach but he did it. Now, to see if they had bounties or not!

What did you think?
One thing that strikes me about this world is just how dark and violent it is. I’m certainly not trying to defend Michio’s actions, but you can see why he would get swept away in this world. Of course, Allen has a large part to play in Michio’s downfall, but he can’t take all the credit. That said, it was nice to see that Michio felt some remorse for what he did, even if it was perfectly legal within this world. The way he crept into the bandits’ room and murdered them was something else though.
He killed five bandits but was only able to collect the identity cards of three of them. Then, of those three only two had bounties on them. He could have gone through all that and found that none had bounties. How would that have left him? Luckily for Michio, he earnt enough to purchase Roxanne… I know, these last two episodes have largely been about raising the funds to buy a slave… a sex slave nonetheless too!
Again, I’m not defending the guy, but in the context of this world, you have to start to wonder what would happen to Roxanne if he freed her straight away. There is no doubt a healthy trade for demihumans and she would no doubt attract a lot of attention. Hopefully, Michio isn’t going to be a dick about things, but you have to wonder! Only time will tell if Roxanne is safer with Michio or not.
