Overlord (Episode 7) – Wise King of Forest
What did you watch?
The adventure with Moman and Nabe continues and this time they may get to face a foe worthy of their skills. It might be the moment Momon has been waiting for as he attempts to make a name for himself. Whatever happens, he will become an unforgettable adventurer. The stuff of legends! Anyhow, I’m getting ahead of myself. Let’s talk about what happened first!
What happened?
As they continued the journey to Carne Village, Momon went over the events of the previous night in his head. He had snapped at Ninya, losing control of his emotions for a fraction of a second. Maybe, he wasn’t completely undead. Anyhow, as they walked Ninya told them about how a dragon might swoop down and attack them at any minute. He mentioned one that could control nature, ice dragons in the mountains, and then, the Wise King of the Forest, a legendary monster that prowls the forest outside Carne Village. It was the only reason the village was not regularly under siege from monsters.
They arrived at Carne Village and were shocked to find a large fence encircling it. Even stranger were the goblins that appeared to fight them away. After one suggested they talk it out rather than have to face Momon, Enri appeared and smoothed everything other. Nfirea was keen to learn what had happened there and was shocked to hear about her parents. He wanted to know more about Lord Ainz Ooal Gown, the saviour of the village. As Enri explained what happened, Nfirea put it all together and ran off to ask Momon if he was Ainz Ooal Gown. Momon reluctantly confirmed it but asked Nfirea to keep it a secret which he fully intended to do. So, with that out of the way, it was time to collect herbs while Momon watched for the Wise King!
What did you think?
Another brilliant episode. There were more hints at larger forces at play and even more things that tied into Yygdrasil. The Djungarian hamster was the big surprise, especially when the others saw that Momon had tamed it. They looked on with awe and fear at the strength of the giant, oversized hamster. I think it did a good job of allowing Nfirea the chance to piece the stories together and work out who Ainz Ooal Gown was. I was surprised that Enri never mentioned that Ainz was a lich wizard, but I guess that’s something you might want to take to your grave if you intend to stay there.
What was your favourite moment?
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the best thing about overpowered characters is the reactions that they create when people see what they are capable of. Of course, it also works the other way. We’ve already seen Lord Ainz show how disappointed he was with something when he fought the mage who was trying to kill Gazef Stronoff. He interrupted Nigun’s victory speech to say the whole thing was stupid. Well, we got to witness a similar event when Momon came face to face with the Wise King of the Forest, who would later become known as Hamusuke. It was amazing. I could feel Momon’s frustration coming through the screen. And it only got better when he was riding Hamusuke through the town much to the wonder of everyone looking on. Just ridiculously brilliant.
Who was the most impactful character?
I want to say Hamusuke, but that would be ridiculous. It was Nfirea. The fact that he managed to pull everything together was impressive. There was the red healing potion that the adventurer, Brita bought to him and how Enri had been healed by a red potion by Lord Ainz. Nabe had carelessly mentioned Albedo when she got infuriated with Lukeluther. Enri then told Nfirea that Lord Ainz had a warrior woman clad in black called Albedo. These are huge leaps, but it’s more the fact that Nfirea put it together and realised what that meant in terms of Momon/Ainz’s power levels. This is not someone to trifle with.
What have you learned?
On the whole, this was a fairly relaxed episode. They did some more adventuring, all conflict was avoided, I had to laugh when he defeated Hamusuke with a level-one fear spell. Momon tamed a legendary creature and brought it back to the guild for registration. Nfirea asked to become Momon’s squire in order to protect Carne Village. Momon reassured him that he would protect the village regardless. So, we get to the final minute of the episode and it’s all been a lot of fun. Then, Clemintine stepped out of the closet and welcomed Nfirea home. You can already taste the anger coming from the next episode. I can’t wait!
