The Kingdoms of Ruin (Episode 12) – Love and Revenge

The Kingdoms of Ruin Title

Doroka has cast a love spell on Adonis and it’s boosted all of his abilities, both physical and magical. With this newfound power, he obliterates Shirousagi, casting a spell so powerful it creates an ice age!

The Kingdoms of Ruin (Episode 12) – Love and Revenge

What happened?

Doroka was able to heal Adonis’ wounds, recreate his magic quill, and give him enough power to send Shirousagi running. However, he would not escape. Adonis cut him down and then ran after him, leaping from robot hand to robot hand. When he caught up with Shirousagi, his first action was to destroy one of his arms. Next, he took one of his legs. With no chance to escape, Adonis began to cast an insanely powerful spell – Absolute Zero. He learned it from Chloe and would use it to protect Doroka – his princess.

Shirousagi could only watch as the air turned to ice, freezing him and everything it touched. He laughed because there was no way Adonis would survive this either, but Doroka had accounted for that. She made his skin like fire, keeping him warm in these freezing conditions. The spell destroyed the Kingdom of Mamuta and Shirousagi. It even reached Punch’s vagrant camp, although they were not destroyed. The one thing to come from this was that Doroka realised that she didn’t want to stop Adonis from getting his revenge. Maybe, humanity had it coming.

What did you think?

The first thing I’ll say is that it’s about time that Doroka realised that the people attacking her and her people did not deserve her sympathy. However, deciding that everyone should die because of a couple of people is a little heavy-handed. That undid any of the more interesting moments from the previous episodes where we saw Punch and his group and then the guy in the cell mourning his dead wife. They showed us that humanity as a whole was not evil. Yes, there are undoubtedly evil people in this world and you could argue the entire population of New Nightmare wouldn’t be missed if something terrible happened. Of course, with Adonis’ power that should have already happened.

I can’t help but think back to when Ophelia told Adonis how he could shape the world with his magic quill. Whatever he desired could become a reality. All that power and he’s spent two episodes getting kicked around by a cyborg… He had plenty of chances to cast spells too, so you can’t argue that Shirousagi had him in a bind with his speed. Maybe, they shouldn’t have claimed that he was so powerful in the beginning because they then spent most of the season backtracking. I’m so relieved that this season is over and I’m pretty certain that should a second season appear, I have no interest in checking it out. This has been disappointing, to say the least.

    • It had a lot of potential but I don’t think it ever really knew what story it wanted to tell and ended up just targeting the shock factor which quickly got old.
