The Quintessential Quintuplets (Episode 15) – Seven Goodbyes Part 2

The Quintessential Quintuplets Season 2 Title

Futaro tells Nino about what happened in Kyoto five years ago and how he recently met the girl again. That’s how he fell in the pond and that’s why he was looking so glum. Will this be enough to make amends?

What happened?

Futaro’s story left Nino crying. She couldn’t believe that he’d loved her for five years and it was over just like that. Futaro tried to comfort her, but Nino pulled away, knocking over a bag full of paper. It turned out to be the notes he’d prepared for them that she had taped back together. She said, she realised what she did at the time was wrong and was sorry.

Back at his house, Futaro told Itsuki what had happened and she found it too hard to believe. Anyhow, Futaro was getting fed up with Itsuki being at his home all the time, which made him realise how Nino might have felt with him always being at their apartment. He went to see her again and apologised. Nino then told him how she felt like all the Quints except her had moved on, which made her feel like she was being left behind.

However, if she could see Kintaro maybe she could move on. Futaro decided to allow it and put on his disguise once more. This time he planned on coming clean about everything, but every time he tried, she managed to dodge it. Eventually, she mad Futaro meet her in the lobby bar to talk about Kintaro. In reality, she wanted to get him out of her room so that she could move somewhere else, which she did once the drugs took effect!

Meanwhile, Yotsuba is stuck in the track team and doesn’t seem to be able to break free. She wants to, but at the same time doesn’t want to disappoint anyone. So, Ichika lets Futaro know so that they can help her.

What did you think?

Believe it or not, I still don’t like this design. Everything feels flat. Will I ever get used to it? Who knows, but it is what it is, I suppose…

So, to the episode in hand. Rena… yeah, sure… is obviously one of the quintuplets in a disguise. Which one, however? My guess is Itsuki. She knows about Kyoto, she knew about the lucky charm, and she knew about the photo. I think they want us to think it was Yotsuba, by having her running around the pond in the last episode when Futaro first climbed out.

Also, Nino fans might want to scroll on… I don’t like Nino. Never have. Her attitude is infuriating and she keeps drugging Futaro. I just don’t get the infatuation with her. I’d take any of the quintuplets over her. Sorry, not sorry. I’m also having a hard time getting into season two. It’s just not working for me so far.

What have you learnt?

I’m not too sure about this one either. I thought this was the Nino redemption arc, but maybe some characters just aren’t meant to be redeemed. It looked like Nino was making progress and then it was all undone when she drugged Futaro again! We’ll have to see if Miku can do anything to convince her otherwise, but I feel like Futaro has got to leave her be. No good can come of it.
