Tamayomi: The Baseball Girls (Episode 2) – Let’s Play Ball Together
They’ve put in the paperwork to make the baseball club a real thing again and even been assigned a mentor, but there are still only four of them and one is the manager. Going to need more players!
Tamayomi: The Baseball Girls (Episode 2) – Let’s Play Ball Together
What happened?
Yomi, Tamaki, and the twins headed down to the diamond to practice and were surprised to find two more girls waiting for them. Yomi asked if they were the upperclassmen who kept the club going despite it getting shut down for violent and dangerous practices. They weren’t but they can play ball so that’s another two girls for the team. Later, Yomi spots two more girls watching them practice and approaches them. She finds out that they are the upperclassmen who kept the club going, so she tries to convince them to join up, but they’re not interested. Yomi then challenges them to try to hit her pitch for fun as it’s their last time there!
What did you think?
It’s slow going, but things are moving along as you might expect. The team is growing, a new teacher has been assigned, and Yoshino is grabbing girls’ thighs… Come on, you know that’s what we’re all here for. While the faces may all be a bit flat and similar, they have definitely put more effort into animating the athletic bodies of these girls and it shows. There certainly weren’t any surprises and it continues to be one of those shows that you can just relax to. I do hope that as it progresses we start to see some action.
What have you learned?
There’s not really a lot to take away from this episode other than it might be a good idea to start a series with some action, especially if you’re then going to take several episodes building a team. It might have been good to see Yomi’s middle school team tanking their games, or even, and I know it’s super cliche, having a scene from the final game of the series and then playing the whole thing out like a flashback as Yomi prepares to throw the game-deciding pitch. I just think this series could have been structured a little better.

Same structure as a lot of idol shows. First you have to get the band together, then you play the concert. Other than maybe a very brief flash forward to the Big Game(which I don’t think we got here)… Tamayomi is pretty much right in the middle of a well worn set of ruts.
And I bet it’s a fairly straightforward adaptation of the source manga’s structure. Not being limited to ‘x’ episodes, they tend to do things differently.
Yeah, it feels like they aren’t really trying to do anything new. A flash forward would have made all the difference, especially if we got a little bit more each episode.
