The World’s Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat (Episode 4) – Plan of Goddess
What happened?
Winter is approaching and the region of Tuatha Dé is prospering under the watchful eye of Cian. He has Lugh to thank as well as his stew is proving to be incredibly popular. That’s not the only thing though, the girls have started to notice the young lord. However, Lugh is looking for someone particular. He needs an apprentice, someone that he can train to be his assistant and they are proving incredibly difficult to find. His main hurdle is finding someone that can use mana.
One cold morning, Lugh goes hunting and tracks down a pack of wolves. He plans on stealing their prey out from under them, but he had no idea just how valuable their prey would be. It was a sickly human girl. She was cold and hungry having been abandoned by her family as winter is coming and they can’t feed everyone.
Lugh rescues her and then feeds her. He asks her what she was doing here. When she tells him what happened to her and that she had a dream that a god told her to come to Tuatha Dé, Lugh knew that she was who he was looking for. Not only does is she able to produce mana, but she’s hungry and desperate. She believes that the gods have given her a purpose and that is to serve Lugh.
Another two years later and Tarte is nothing like the little girl that Lugh rescued. She has been training continuously, learning the way of the assassin and how to put on the airs and graces of a personal assistant to a lord. The story needs to be convincing. However, Tarte is struggling to get to grips with a knife. That’s when Lugh decides to go with her strengths and creates a spear that can fold away to be concealed.

What did you think?
I am thoroughly enjoying this series. The way that Lugh has stuck to his task singlemindedly has been inspiring and something that I can absolutely relate to. He has accepted his mission and will see it through to the end. Unlike some of the other candidates. I wouldn’t necessarily call Lugh’s tactics to turn Tarte to his side brainwashing as she was quite susceptible at that point anyhow. The promise of food and purpose would have been quite appealing to a starving homeless child.
Anyhow, I like that it gives Lugh an edge and shows us that he’s not perfect, despite appearances. Obviously, that plays into the families secret and is very much like his father Cian. His mother is a very different person, but she knows and accepts the role her family plays so she is not completely absolved. This series has been a lot of fun so far and while it could be considered fairly slow, I think it’s quite methodical in its approach and that’s been a big selling point for me.

What have you learnt?
So, the Goddess appears to be up to all sorts of nonsense. We got to see her reincarnate another warrior to this world and give him the same mission – kill the hero. However, this was forty years ago. When the goddess checked in on the progress of Number 283 she was disappointed to see that he had become a NEET and was in no way able to kill the hero. My question now is, what if there isn’t a hero? It would appear that the Goddess has been sending people to this world to kill the hero for quite some time.
It’s entirely possible that she’s spread them out on purpose to see if a particular age makes for a better hero killer, but it’s also possible that she’s just larping around sending people there to see what happens. I get the sense that the Goddess is quite mischievous and nothing is beyond her. It’s entirely possible that each is sent there to kill the previous one, could they each be a hero at some point in their life? Well, not Number 283, he’s a lost cause. I can’t wait for some answers.
