Cautious Hero: The Hero Is Overpowered but Overly Cautious (Episode 8) – Neat and Tidy but Overly Nymphomaniacal

What happened?

Ristarte was visiting with Ariadoa to see how Mash and Elulu’s training was going when she revealed that Seiya was training with Mitis in the Verdent Forest. Ariadoa was horrified. Mitis had been banished to the Verdent Forest because she was a nymphomaniac who regularly devoured heroes. If Seiya gave in to her charm, he would be sent back to his own world. Ristarte, Mash, and Elulu race to his aid. However, they needn’t have worried as Seiya appeared to have everything under control. Well, Mitis was tied up and naked…

However, Mitis broke free after Seiya fired an arrow into her head. Then, as she chases after him, wild with lust, he shoots her again, this time with three arrows. Then, she spotted Mash and decided to start with an appetiser! Then, Seiya unleashed his newest skill and penetrated her with five flaming arrows. His training has been a success. He is now ready to return to Gaeabrande. When they arrive, they learn that Rosalie has attempted to defeat Beel Bub on her own. Of course, Seiya had planned for that. He asked Ristarte to distract Beel Bub so that he could unleash yet another new skill!

Aware that the hero is planning something, Beel Bub flew higher and higher, far out of an arrow’s range. Then, as he was about to hurl Rosalie to the ground, Ristarte noticed something in the distance and distracted Beel Bub long enough for Seiya’s attack to reach him. Unfortunately, Beel Bub dodged the attack. Ristarte caught Rosalie and then continued to occupy Beel Bub, attempting to buy Seiya another opening. Five more flaming arrows zeroed in on their target, but Beel Bub dodged again. This time, he was able to see where the shots had come from and rushed to attack Seiya. Of course, Seiya was ready for him!

What did you think?

Mitis was hilarious, allowing the animators to make the most out of a wide variety of camera angles… It all made for a completely bizarre and outrageous scene, especially as she chased after Seiya and Mash, appearing more like a demon than a goddess. Of course, Seiya was prepared for everything this episode threw at him. Even Rosalie rushing off on her own didn’t faze him. He knew she would ignore his advice because that is exactly what he would have done, back before he learned his lesson. She definitely has a hero complex, which is compounded by the way she accuses Seiya of not being a real hero because of his tactics.

Here’s an excerpt from my first review of the first time I reviewed this series – “I wonder if Seiya has been involved with another hero or situation where he wasn’t prepared and it cost him dearly.” I’m going to take that as a huge win for past me. The first time you watch this series, it’s surprisingly hard to pick up on all the foreshadowing, and there is a lot. Most of it seems completely inconspicuous at the time, so I’m delighted that I had almost worked it out by the eighth episode. I love trying to work out what’s happening in a story, and thanks to the amount of time that I’ve put into studying story structures, I think I’m getting pretty good at it.

That said, it doesn’t matter if you’re right or wrong; the fun is in the speculating and trying to find all the breadcrumbs that have been left for us. Regardless, it’s incredibly satisfying when you see how it all fits together after the fact. Ironically, it helps to avoid the old deus ex machina ending, which would be oddly appropriate in a series with gods and goddesses!
