Darwin’s Game (Episode 4) – Fireworks

Having partnered with Rein, for the time being, Kaname will have to find a way to get down to the hotel lobby so that he can face off against the Florist. With Rein’s Sigil, they may even stand a chance!
What happened?
After running around shooting security cameras, Kaname and Rein hide out in the room she started in. Once there, she explains how her Sigil works. She can see future actions and events and can adjust her attack and defence accordingly. Kaname, however, hasn’t quite got his figured out yet, other than he can recreate anything he’s touched before. With the Florist, zombie players closing in on them, Kaname comes up with a plan. Rein will draw them away, while he gets past the stairwell blocks by abseiling down the side of the building. Once there, he quickly realises that the Florist is far tougher than he expected.

What was your favourite element?
There were a lot of fun moments in this episode. I loved Rein using her Sigil to predict the flight path of bullets and how the players would attack her. Then, when she pulled out her gun and took care of them with ease, I was massively impressed. That was pretty awesome, but the best was yet to come. Kaname had made it to the lobby and confronted the Florist, who using his plants was able to construct a near-indestructible armour for himself. It wasn’t looking good for Kaname.
He had almost given up when the little voice in his head spoke up. I loved that he referred to it as the sore loser and the next thing we know, he’s having some sort of inner reflective moment with himself… or maybe the personification of his Sigil. Anyhow, after the little talk he woke up and was able to not only recreate the weapon and bullets but was able to make them heavier and increase the amount of gunpowder. This opens up so many possibilities going forward.

What have you learnt?
We didn’t learn much about the game and the reason for its existence, but I’m going to let it slide because this was all action and I loved it. I guess from that, I’m going to infer that if you’re not going to progress the story, you better make it a lot of fun. Admittedly, there was some progress and Kaname offering the Florist a chance to join them was an interesting idea. I didn’t see it coming, but given what we know about Kaname it makes perfect sense. This tactic isn’t going to work with every player and I think he knows that. Hopefully, we’ll discover a little bit more about the game once the event is over, but I think we should expect some more action in the next episode.
