Darwin’s Game (Saturday Spin-off) – Liu Xuelan

I know it’s just finished, but I feel like it’s already time to head back into Darwin’s Game. This time, however, I’d like to see a lot more of Xuelan. By that, I, of course, mean to give her a series all of her own!
What’s going on?
It’s probably no secret that I enjoyed Darwin’s Game. The series did a great job of building the world up through the episodes with the action and intrigue growing stronger as it progressed. My favourite moment in the entire series was when the number one D-Game player, Xuelan took an interest in Kaname and decided to kidnap him, much to his clan’s annoyance. In one episode, Xuelan captured my imagination and a little bit of my heart. Basically, she has the potential for an outstanding backstory with an interesting journey to the point where she meets Kaname. Let’s have a look at how that might go.

What’s the pitch?
I new group of assassins was attempting to muscle their way into the scene and to show that they meant business, they kidnapped the daughter of the head of a clan of Taiwanese assassins. That was their first mistake. Life started as you might expect for Xuelan – fighting for everything. If she wanted to survive, she needed to prove that she deserved to survive. It was a simple case of survival of the fittest, or the most adaptable as Darwin set out in his works on evolution. When the demands came in for Xuelan’s freedom, her father laughed in their faces and told them it was they who needed to pay him to protect them from his daughter.
Determined to show that they meant business, they checked in on their hideout. The plan was to send pieces of Xuelan to her father until he conceded. Of course, that plan was about to hit a pretty big snag. As the first assassin approached Xuelan who was bound and gagged, but stopped suddenly and fell to the floor, screaming. One by one the assassins attempted to get close to Xuelan and one by one they fell to the ground.
Once the last assassin had been incapacitated, Xuelan slipped out of her bonds and walked towards their leader. She rolled him over and stared into his terrified eyes. He grabbed at his body feeling for the wound he was sure, he’d received, but there was nothing. Xuelan smiled as she slipped a blade off his belt!

Where did the inspiration come from?
Xuelan is one cool character and you don’t get to be the number one player of D-Game without being ruthless. That has to have been developed over a period of time, so it makes sense that she had begun her training at a very young age, especially as the heir to clan of assassins. I feel like this story would be much darker than Darwin’s Game and would follow Xuelan as she hones her skills and becomes to number one hitman for hire and D-Game player. I’d love to see the looks on the faces of the players that challenged her first, thinking she was a rookie. Basically, I really want to find out more about Xuelan and one episode in season one wasn’t enough.
