What happened?
The girls’ party is made up of six girls who all decided to become adventurers once they became too old for the orphanage. They had made it past the first chamber on the first floor when they heard an explosion. At first, they thought it was magic, but why would someone who could use such a powerful spell be wasting their time on the first floor? They hurried to see what caused it and found a group of adventurers who had set off a trap. One was already dead, but the others were in a bad way. Four girls stayed to look after them while two went for help. They found the Captain and his party, who appeared to be the only people willing to help. They made their way through the dungeon, eventually reaching the chamber where they should find their friends. The Captain prepared for a fight. You can never be too careful.
Once inside, they found a group of adventurers. Could they be the Scruffy Men? Female Warrior froze at the thought of it. The Captain and Myrmidon Monk took on the men who had the advantage of numbers. Female Wizard and Sword Maiden cast a sleep spell which slowed them all down. However, one rushed through, trying to get to the girls. Half-Elf Scout got in his way and was relieved to find out it was just a rogue and not one of the Scruffy Men. He yelled the news to the others, allowing the Captain to attack without worry. He finished off the group in seconds. They found the girls’ party members and a couple of surviving members of the party they came to save. Amazingly, they managed to get them out of the Dungeon and to the Temple. After all that work, they deserved a day off.
What did you think?
It was another exciting dungeon encounter. I like that we’re seeing the group become more familiar with one another and how that makes them all stronger, as a result. One thing that I really want to talk about is the fact that we don’t know anyone’s name. It’s the same in the main Goblin Slayer story and while I’m reading it, it isn’t a problem. When I come to review it, I have to talk about the Captain or the Female Warrior. I understand that in these situations using names isn’t that important, but I feel like these people spend a lot of time together, they would at least know and use each other’s names. It’s not an issue as far as the story goes. I just think they started that way and aren’t prepared to change things now.
It was nice to see that they gained some respect for what they did by rescuing the adventurers, especially as no one else was willing to even let them explain the issue. I also love how the Myrmidon Monk talks. He basically doesn’t seem to care either way about anything. I also think it’s great that they all understand the Captain and are ready to back him up no matter what his decision is. However, one of my favourite moments in this volume was when Female Warrior took the Captain to buy her some new armour. They have great chemistry and already feel like close friends. Only friends would continually tease each other about slimes… We’ve also just learnt about the Newbie Hunters which is not something that the Captain will ignore.
