Goblin Slayer (Episode 10) – Dozing

Everyone made it back from Water Town in one piece, however, while they were away news that the hero had defeated the Demon Lord spread through the lands. Finally, a time to relax… not on Goblin Slayer’s watch there isn’t!
What happened?
Goblin Slayer has recovered from his quest and was heading into town to visit the guild and get his armour repaired. Of course, that meant that he was walking around without his helmet and people didn’t recognise him. Well, most of the people didn’t. I kind of suspected that Majo did, but she’s a bit mysterious so it’s hard to say.
With his armour fixed and back on, Goblin Slayer returned to the Guild where he met up with Priestess and the others. High Elf invited him to have a meal with them to celebrate the hero’s accomplishment. After eating, Goblin Slayer headed back to the farm with his childhood friend, Musume.

At the meal, the Guild receptionist brought up the idea that they may build a training facility for new Adventurers. This would increase their likelihood of survival and provide a place for retired Adventurers to work and pass on their knowledge. The idea sat in Musume’s thoughts as she considered a possibility of life after adventuring for Goblin Slayer.
Meanwhile, the Hero’s party was welcomed back to the Capitol where they celebrated their victory with a parade. Celebrations broke out across the land. High Elf and Dwarf had a drinking contest which provided plenty of entertainment at the guild.
Sword Maiden had sent Goblin Slayer a letter thanking him for his help and telling him that the goblins haven’t bothered her dreams since that night. She was grateful for his help and prayed for him at this time of peace, although, she too knew that the monsters wouldn’t just disappear.
The next morning, Goblin Slayer was making his morning rounds, checking for signs of goblins, as he does every morning. However, this morning, he reached the edge of the farm and stopped, staring at a mess of footprints. The goblins had scouted out the farm!

What did you think?
After a couple of high action episodes, it was nice to settle down with the characters and have a chance to reflect on the things that have happened. I loved that the other adventurers seemed to be willing to assist the younger adventurers now. Was this the influence of Goblin Slayer? Possibly, but either way, it can only be a good thing.
I’ve enjoyed both episodes that have followed Musume, offering us an insight into what it must be like living with Goblin Slayer and all the baggage that he comes with. It gives us a chance to see how his life impacts on others, and not just his party members. I like that she is thinking of the future and whether or not Goblin Slayer will be a part of that.
Finally, that final image of Goblin Slayer finding the footprints is a heart stopping moment. Even without being able to see his face, you knew what he was thinking.

What have you learnt?
I’ve mentioned it before, but I’m going to talk about it again, as I think it’s a really interesting idea. All too often, the story follows a chosen one who goes off on a quest to save the world from the big bad monster. It this world, that story would have been the Hero’s party defeating the Demon Lord, and I’m sure it would have been an epic tale.
However, we’re following an adventurer called Goblin Slayer who doesn’t get the attention or the praise, most likely not even the appropriate compensation, but he is every bit the hero. On top of that, he’s much more relateable. Not everyone can be the Hero, but everyone can do their part to help make the lives of others better.
