One-Punch Man (Volume 9) – Nothing But Trouble!

What happened?

The Hero Association is so worried about the prediction by the Great Seer Shibabawa that the world would be in danger in the next six months so they have invited all the villains to see if they can reason with them. Sonic was one of the villains to show up and was disappointed to find out that Saitama wasn’t there. He left in search of Saitama while another villain, Garo revealed his intentions to kill everyone there, villains included.

Sonic arrived at Saitama’s apartment building but was intercepted by Genos. A fight quickly broke out, but Saitama was distracted by Hellish Blizzard and her sidekicks. She is the number one B-Ranked hero and wants to add him to her faction. She basically threatens to block his progress if he doesn’t, however, Saitama isn’t interested and quickly defeats her sidekicks when they attack. Blizzard decides to make him pay on her own, but she can’t even scratch him. Their fight is broken up when Sonic and Genos come crashing into them.

Saitama decided to step in a stop Sonic, using a move from his Serious Series – Serious Sideways Jumps. After the fight, Blizzard goes back to the apartment with Genos and Saitama. There she explains her situation and how her older sister, Terrible Tornado makes it impossible for anyone to take her seriously. She’s then stunned when King walks in and again when she learns that they know Silverfang too! Meanwhile, Garo has been cornered by Tank-Top Master and his faction!

What did you think?

This was fantastic. I loved the way there were two fights going on simultaneously in the same place. It’s amazing when Saitama gets serious and even more so because he’s terrible at naming his special moves. Anyhow, the best part was Blizzard realising just how connected Saitama was. The funniest moment was when King walked into his apartment and asked Saitama if he took his game. Of course, no one other than Saitama knows that King isn’t the strongest man on Earth and we’ve seen how the other S-Ranked heroes act around him. It was a classic reaction to an overpowered character.

I’m also loving the Garo part of the story and my main question now is whether he actually killed Tank-Top Master and his faction. It certainly looks that way and frankly, I’m not going to miss them. I do love that Bang’s brother is another martial arts master and his name is Bomb. However, the best detail for me was how similar Garo’s fighting style was to Bang’s. Even his stance was just like it. That’s a great detail. It’s better than just telling us he was Bang’s pupil. I know they told us too, but that just enhanced it. I can’t wait until Saitama gets to fight Garo. Then, we’ll know just how strong he is… or not!
