Record of Grancrest War (Episode 20) – Pitched Battle of the Three Forces

The Treaty Alliance attempts to hold back the Alliance forces as the Union forces make their way to the battlefield. If they can just get everyone to sit down, there may be a chance to end this bloody conflict once and for all!
What happened?
Theo called on all of the treaty members to join the battle against the Alliance. Siluca revealed that Alexis and the Union forces were on their way, they just needed to hold the line until then. Unfortunately for them, Marrine had brought all of her forces to make sure they couldn’t do that.
They started the battle with a giant magical beast that charged through the barricades and was followed by a wave of soldiers. Of course, Siluca was prepared for this and had set numerous traps to counter. Then, when the soldiers tried to retreat, David Lasic swept in and attacked from the flank.
What was left of the Nord came down the river and planned on taking Edokia’s ship. Laura Hardly released a fleet of fire sheets at them, which caused them little worry. The Nord ships created a channel for the ships to float harmlessly by, but not if Laura had anything to do with it. She used her magic to direct the burning weapons straight into the Nord ships.

The Waldren Knights entered the battle and pummelled Theo and his troops with crest bolts. The battle raged on around them, bloody and brutal. But then, the sound of an advancing army carried on the air. Alexis had arrived. Marrine pulled back her forces in order to regroup.
That evening, the three leaders gathered to discuss the conflict. Theo revealed his plan to create peace by having Alexis and Marrine marry. Then, he would swear loyalty to them and they could create the Grancrest. Marrine didn’t want Alexis involved for fear of the Mages’ Association who she believed to be the true evil in the world.
Alexis convinced her otherwise with a fancy troop formation outside of the meeting tent. Marrine told him about Milza, but he didn’t care. It appeared that all was right in the world once more. Now, it was just for them to get married and Theo swears his loyalty. Actually, they planned on swearing their loyalty to Theo and make him the Emperor! Surely, someone’s going to object!

What did you think?
Well, the big battle was pretty exciting and they managed to throw in some more interesting creatures and I enjoyed the battle tactics. As soon as they started their meeting, I felt a sense of dread hanging over me. That sense didn’t leave, even after they’d agree to get married. That was when I noticed the run time at the start of the ED was shorter that normal. That’s right, there was a bonus scene after the ED in which the head of the Mages’ Association and the vampire lord from epsiode five were plotting.
I expect things to take a pretty dark turn soon enough, even if it didn’t happen in this episode. Either way, things are getting pretty interesting. That Mage behind Alexis was looking a little hot under the collar when Marrine revealed her concerns. I still think Siluca’s father will be involved somehow.

What have you learnt?
I’m sure there will be those who aren’t happy to see Alexis and Marrine get back together. Boohoo! Cry me a river! I’ve also noticed criticism of the way the steps to this peace treaty have been made, but I’m quite confident that you could look through any number of historical records of conflicts and you would discover similarities. It’s more than just the nations and their characteristics that are similar.
So, this brings me to my observation for this episode. There’s a lot of crazy things in the history books. Real-life really is quite extraordinary and if you’re looking for inspiration for a story then you can’t go wrong. Lots of great military conflicts are well documented and should give you more than enough details to craft a believable series of events.
