Sabikui Bisco (Episode 6) – Companions and Prey
What happened?
Saying they were underprepared is an understatement. Milo and Bisco barely have enough clothing to remain warm as they cross the frozen planes and they don’t have much food either. When they spot a frostrabbit, they think their luck is about to change. Milo shows off his synthesis skills when he fires a new arrow type. However, they soon find there was something next to the frostrabbit – a frozen human girl. It’s Tirol!
As a way of thanking them for saving her, she negotiates with a local trader, getting them cloaks and supplies, although she may have had an ulterior motive for doing so. She also leads them to the Subway and helps them get a train moving. Her previous job as an engineer is coming in handy, although she reveals that her previous employer had wanted them to reactivate a Tetsujin…
Tirol decides that she has gone far enough with Milo and Bisco, although she may think she’s made a mistake when they ask for her name and say their farewells like old friends. She’s always been about looking after herself, but this feels strangely warm. Not long after leaving Tirol behind, Bisco and Milo are attacked by an Oilsquid.
They manage to make it out of the tunnel alive. However, a giant bird swoops down and carries away the giant oilsquid. It didn’t make far though as an enormous Pipe Snake emerges from the canyon and swallows them both. The Pipe Snake is what they’ve been looking for, but how will they kill it, especially as Pawoo has just caught up with them too!

What did you think?
The world that this is taking place in is fascinating. I am loving all the bizarre hybrid creatures that are often oversized and living in an environment that seems incompatible with them. They must have had a lot of fun coming up with the weird and wonderful creatures. Not least the Pipe Snake that was so ridiculously large that it made everything we’ve seen to date appear insignificant. Not to mention the rows of human fingers and legs it has on its underbelly.
I’m also enjoying Milo and Bisco’s relationship. They have a fantastic dynamic where they are clearly friends, but Bisco is struggling to admit it, although he is definitely warming to the idea. I was surprised to see Tirol leave again, but as they said, their fates are clearly entwined so she will be back and no doubt causing as many issues as she solves.
This episode ended with a great moment. Bisco and Milo had just found the Pipe Snake and it’s massive. If they can kill it they should be able to find the Rust Eater. Does that mean the mushrooms are growing on these weird creatures? As I said, this world is incredible. Not only are they in for a struggle to defeat it, but Pawoo has caught up with them. Hopefully, Milo will finally get a chance to explain things before she tries to kill Bisco. I am loving this series.
