Mieruko-chan (Episode 11) – She Looks
What happened?
Hana is really struggling and the number of cat spirits with Zen seems to increase daily. Miko can’t just sit back and let this go. She has to protect her friend. After school, she follows Zen home in the hopes of seeing him do something that would get him fired. She needs to keep her distance and avoid being noticed by the big ghost too.
She considers the idea of letting the divine spirits deal with her and use up her third time, but what if something bigger and more terrifying shows up? No, she’s going to take care of this herself. After a while, she follows him to an underpass and notices him crouching down to pet a cat. It’s time to call the police, but she can’t just sit back and let him hurt it. Miko screams!
Zen recognises her from before and wants some answers. However, Miko took the cat and ran. She didn’t get very far though. Zen caught up with her, but the cat ran off again, straight into the road. Surprisingly, he raced into the road and saved it from the incoming car, ending up in hospital himself. Miko went with him and cleared things up. Zen had been trying to find the cat killer but kept finding the abused cats as they died, hence the spirits.
After a discussion with Zen’s friend, Miko realises that the ghost haunting Zen is his overbearing mother. She realises what she must do, even if it terrifies her. She goes back into Zen’s room and asks him if he had considered adopting the cat he saved. He can’t do it. Miko is certain that he loves cats and then tells his mother to set him free. She freaks out and races after Miko.

What did you think?
Most episodes have had a good balance of horror and comedy, but this one was all horror. That was intense and it really didn’t let up one bit. The flashbacks to Zen’s childhood were horrific. At first, I was concerned that they were going to make us feel sorry for Zen, but then it was revealed that he wasn’t the cat killer, I was relieved that they managed it. His mother, however, needs to die a horrible death, even in the afterlife. She is pure evil!
I loved that we saw Miko’s thought progression as she came to terms with what she needed to do. No doubt, her continued presence has hampered his ability to make friends and develop as a person, whether they can see her or not. He must be draining to be around. The moment that she stood up and told her off was fantastic. I am curious what a ghost can do to someone that’s seen them. Does that change the dynamics? Also, hopefully, we’ll find out who’s attacking the cats and how Miko will go on without divine protection!

I need to put this one in my queue. I started to watch it, then got distracted.
I did the same thing originally. Watched the first episode and loved it, but had too much going on. It’s definitely worth watching. There are some wonderfully creepy moments.
