Mieruko-chan (Episode 12) – The Girl Who Sees, Mieruko-chan

Mieruko Chan Title

Miko watches as the divine spirits finish off Zen’s mother. With her gone, a wave of relief rushes over Miko, forcing her to cry. Of course, Zen has no idea what’s going on and Hana and Yuria have just arrived. Awkward!

What happened?

Zen’s mother staggered back into his room. She appeared to be headed for his body in the hopes of hiding within. However, Miko returned to the room and called her out again, forcing the spirits to finish her off once and for all. Of course, Zen was confused. For all he knew, Miko yelled at him, ran out, and then came back in and cried at him! What a strange girl!

To make matters worse, Hana and Yuria arrived to check on Zen and Miko. Hana saw Miko crying and told Zen off for traumatizing her by jumping in front of a car. He apologised, but that wasn’t the real reason Miko was so emotional. Then she noticed Zen bathed in a wash of spiritual energy. The cat spirits left him, no doubt free since his mother’s spirit had moved on.

Things returned to normal for a while. Zen finally found the cat killer who then mysteriously went missing. He finally told his neighbour that he doesn’t like other people’s food as he has no idea if it has a hair in it or something. She was shocked, more so that he realised she was up to something. She thought she hid them really well… The Godmother received a letter with a photograph in it. She had no idea who it was from, but she recognised Hana and Miko. Concerning!

Miko returned to the shrine to thank the divine beings that resided there, but they seemed less than impressed with her offering. They closed in, the large god taking on a strange form as it tried to eat her. Then, she woke to another “normal” day, but was it really a dream? Would the divine spirits really be mad at her? She really should take them an offering.

What did you think?

There was a lot to keep on top of in this episode and if you looked away you may have missed it, so I’m going to try to list everything here and hope that we get a second season to get some answers. Firstly, Zen may not be the cat killer, but he’s quite possibly a murderer. That would explain the dead eyes. Then we have the Godmother. Who sent her that picture and what did it mean? She seemed concerned. Next up is Zen’s neighbour who was putting hair or something in the food she gave him. I’m hoping it’s not or something…

Finally, the biggest thing to come out of this episode was the divine beings at the shrine. What was up with them? She got their protection based on the offering she gave last time – five-hundred yen which Hana tried to put in and missed. What do they want now? Did Miko do something that upset them such as deliberately calling on them to kill Zen’s mother? Maybe they didn’t like that. Did it really happen or was it a dream? I almost felt like Miko had jumped back to day one based on the similarities of how stuff happened. And last but not least, where did Miko get her powers from?

Anyhow, this was another great episode which had some truly chilling moments. I’ve enjoyed every minute of this season and am already looking forward to more. I am also going to look into the manga too. I need answers and a butt bun!
