Seven Mortal Sins (Episode 1) – The Proud Fallen Angel
What happened?
On her way to hell, Lucifer crashed into a church where she met a human that could see her. She made some sort of a promise to Maria Totsuka before continuing on her journey. Maria was stunned by what she saw and didn’t quite know what to do with the information. No one would believe her anyway! Lucifer came to a stop at the lowest level of hell – Cocytus. She was discovered by an aspiring demon called Leviathan.
Leviathan recognised Lucifer straight away and attempted to make her her plaything. When that didn’t work, she was happy to follow Lucifer on her journey, although she did have plans to overthrow the Seven Mortal Sins that ruled Hell to become one herself. Lucifer had no such plans, she just wanted to be free to do as she pleased. Ironically, she got into a fight with Belial, the demon lord of vanity who cut off one of Lucifer’s wings. Little did she realise that she had just severed her connection to God, making Lucifer the demon lord of pride.

What did you think?
This episode felt a little rushed. I think the biggest issue was with it attempting to introduce all of the Sins at once. I didn’t love it, but there was definitely enough to peak my interest. liked how each of the seven sins was personified as a demon lord and they had the various traits that came with that sin. However, I did find it odd that the other sins all drew the line at torturing Lucifer once she’d been defeated by Belial. I think this is the main issue with using existing characters and worlds. It can help to get people into it, but there’s an expectation around these names and places that I don’t think stands with the story they are trying to tell.
Other than that, the character designs are all cool and providing you are watching the uncensored version, there is a lot of ecchi and I would say it’s only going to get better. Hopefully, we’ll get a better idea of what the actual story is. There’s obviously much more to this than just Lucifer being banished from Heaven. As I said, it wasn’t great but it did enough to make me curious.
