Seven Mortal Sins (Episode 12) – God’s In His Heaven, All’s Right With the World
What happened?
Lucifer realises that the angel is Michael, however, Belial still thinks she’s done enough to be allowed back into Heaven. Of course, Michael doesn’t even know who she is and has no intention of letting anyone leave. Belial is furious and attacks Michael without hesitation. However, Michael has seven wings of golden light which she will use to destroy Hell and then Earth. Amazingly, Belial destroys one of the wings before she is defeated. Rather than dying she is cast out of Hell and sent to Earth, Astaroth goes with her.
This cements Lucifer and Leviathan as members of the Seven Mortal Sins. There’s no time to party though as Michael needs to be stopped. The Sins attack, sacrificing themselves one by one as they destroy a golden wing. When the last one is gone, Lucifer is left to attack, forcing Michael to flee to Earth. Their fight erupts in the sky above Tokyo and eventually, Michael wins, killing Lucifer. Maria is beside herself and asks who she should pray to. Leviathan doesn’t know thinks a sacrifice might do something. Maria picks up Lucifer’s spear and stabs herself, falling onto Lucifer’s lifeless body. Amazingly, Lucifer is reborn in Maria’s body and she’s not about to miss the chance to finish things with Michael.

What did you think?
This was definitely an action-packed finale. It had everything you might expect from a series with strong biblical references – sacrifice, rebirth, mercy. Of course, it was all flipped around and it was Lucifer that showed mercy. Lucifer was reborn from Maria’s sacrifice. They won because of the sacrifices made by the Sins. It was a fairly interesting and entertaining way to bring this series to a close.
However, it was a little quick. The idea that God and Heaven were planning on destroying Hell and Earth to restart the world deserved a lot more time than it got. It makes me look at the earlier episodes and wonder if that time could have been better spent. It absolutely could have. I do wonder if they were hoping they would get a second season and when the studio behind it went bankrupt before the twelfth episode they probably scrambled to tie things off. It wasn’t a bad ending, but there were a lot of missed opportunities.
