Lucifer begins her descent through the nine circles of Hell and encounters each of the other Sins, however, they have already been visited by Belial and are suffering their penance for betrayal!

What happened?

Belial is a couple of steps ahead of Lucifer all the way down. She visits with each of the Sins and asks them again if they will side with her or Lucifer. When they choose Lucifer, she reminds them that they chose her as their leader and as such will suffer for their betrayal. Asmodeus is bound and hung, forced to suffer the ecstasy of pain as the wind slices her skin slower than she reheals. It will go on forever, however, she refuses to let Lucifer save her.

It’s the same for Beelzebub who is being force-fed sausages. Mammon finds herself on a golden torture horse, her legs weighed down by bags of gold. Belphegor is forced to run on a treadmill or fall into molten lava. Satan is the last to suffer the consequences as she is consumed by the souls of the violent souls. Lucifer promises each of them that she’ll change the status quo. On the ninth level, Cocytus, Lucifer has to battle giants from a time before time who attempted to rise up again God. She wins, but it takes everything she has. How will she be able to face Belial now?

What did you think?

I enjoyed this one and can’t help but look back at the less serious episodes from earlier in the season and wonder what could have been had they taken a slightly more serious tone. You can still have the fan service, but I would have liked to see the Sins being more devious and sinister. It’s not been bad, but there is the potential for this to have been fantastic.

The big takeaway from this episode, however, was the fact that Belial is not from Hell. She’s not even a member of the famous family she claimed to be from. So, what is she? I doubt she is a human so that means she is most likely a fallen angel like Lucifer. Was she planted in Hell to undermine things and prepare for Heaven’s goals? It would make sense as that is exactly what she accused Lucifer of doing. I get the sense we’re about to have a couple of epic episodes where things really get crazy. Bring it on!
