Uzaki is devastated. She can’t hang out with Sakurai anymore… until she’s finished her summer report, that is. If only he would help her… Hang on, why’s he shutting her outside in the rain? Senpai!!!

What happened?

Sakurai was ready to help her in any way he could until he heard that the reason they couldn’t hang out was entirely her fault and easily remedeable. Did she really come to his door in the rain to tell him that rather than send him a message or call him on the phone? Uzaki really is quite shrewd and she almost got what she wanted. If only she had kept the pretense up a little longer. Oh well. She’ll have to complete the report on her own if she wants to enjoy the remainder of the summer.

Talking of scheming, Uzaki is keen to find out what Sakurai is like when he’s drunk, especially as he’s seen her at her worst. Come to think of it, has anyone ever seen Sakurai drunk. There is one! Sakaki has and he tells them that Sakurai is a useless drunk. He can’t do anything. He’s also unable to lie. Those reasons alone are enough to make him be careful when he drinks, so if she’s going to do it, she’ll need to be sneaky!

Ami asked to come with her, but after the last time, Uzaki isn’t prepared to share him with her. So, Uzaki shows up at Sakurai’s apartment with some drink and food. She’s prepared a number of spicy dishes which will require a drink to wash them down. After that, they’ll watch a movie which will distract Sakurai so he’s not paying attention to how much he’s drunk. Finally, Uzaki will need to pretend to drink as he will automatically try to beat whoever he’s drinking with. Let’s get it on!

So, this was a funny episode. There have been better ones, though. It was interesting that Ami had noticed that Uzaki talks differently around Sakurai and even more so when Uzaki realised that Ami was right. The flashback to their first meeting was funny too, especially with how scary his eyes are. As always, Ami and Akihiko were fantastic, even closing the cafe to hear about Uzaki and Sakurai’s night drinking. I just love their reactions.

So, now to a more serious part of the episode. I can’t believe the bulk of the episode was focused on Uzaki getting Sakurai drunk. This feels like one of those moments where had it been flipped it could have been seen as quite sinister. It’s also not cool to trick someone into drinking more than they want to. Whilst I appreciate the joke and how they both ended up getting drunk and waking up next to one another, this felt like a poor joke to end the season on. I prefer the misunderstandings and awkward stuff that seems to happen when they just hang out. The last two times they went drinking were hilarious. This one not so much.
