Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! (Episode 5) – I Want to Meddle in My Friend’s Business!
What happened?
Sakaki is pretty much the polar opposite of Sakurai. He’s outgrowing and charming, adventurous and forthright. It’s a wonder that they’re friends at all. Uzaki was shocked when she met him as she believed Sakurai had lied about having a friend. She even assumed he was faking it the one time she saw him have lunch with another person. Sakaki, who is desperate for Sakurai to get a girlfriend and live a little, is delighted to see the chemistry the two have developed.
Later that day, he interrupts their gaming to ask some daring questions about their relationship. He can see that they like each other and knows that they will need a push to get things going. However, Sakurai is infuriated by the accusation, although Uzaki hints that they may have done something… cough, cough, VR boob grab, cough, cough. Anyhow, Sakurai offers to buy Uzaki an ice cream rather than subject her to Sakaki’s questions. They leave and are almost instantly replaced by Ami Asai who is furious that Sakaki is interfering.
Outside, Uzaki is enjoying some choco-mints. She offers him one, but he asks if they taste like toothpaste… Uzaki is beside herself with fury and climbs onto her soapbox to tell the world about the glorious choco-mints and how those that enjoy them, the chocomintians, have been looked down upon and mocked. No, mint doesn’t taste like toothpaste, toothpaste tastes like mint. When she’s done, a crowd gives her a standing ovation. Then, Uzaki discovers that Sakurai has never even tried choco-mint and chooses violence!

What did you think?
This episode is really all about two scenes. The first is when Ami Asai confronts Sakaki about his meddling in Uzaki and Sakurai’s relationship. Her fury was incredible and when he offered to team up with her to help, she got even madder. What didn’t he get? There is to be no meddling. It was hilarious and even more so because Sakurai heard some of it from outside the window.
However, that pales in comparison to Uzaki’s choco-mint-inspired speech. I didn’t track exactly how long she yelled at Sakurai, but it must have been a third of the episode at least. It was an epic monologue that was topped off by the round of applause she received upon completing it. Then, for Sakurai to tell her he’d never tried it was inspired. She was ready to fight him. Of course, she forced him to try one which resulted in an indirect kiss… oh, the shame! Anyhow, it was hilarious. Also, I hate choco-mint. It does taste like toothpaste…
