BOFURI: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, so I’ll Max Out My Defense (Episode 15) – Maxing Defense and the Seventh Event

Maple returns to the Haunted Mansion in search of the item Sally wanted. Soon after she goes on an adventure with Mii, but there’s not much time for fun as the next event is about to begin. Can they climb the tower?
BOFURI: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, so I’ll Max Out My Defense (Episode 15) – Maxing Defense and the Seventh Event
What happened?
Two ghost children were leading Maple around the Haunted Mansion. If she could catch them, they would give her something special. Then they dropped her into a slime pit. Big mistake! Maple used [Pyschokenesis] to turn the slime into armour and weapons which she then used to fly out of the pit and trap the ghosts. At one point, the game couldn’t handle Maple’s attack and it glitched a little. Anyhow, Maple got the items and was keen to give Sally the one she wanted.
Sally was delighted, although she couldn’t keep one of the items. It was the one that gave her two ghost arms to accompany her. Maple took it and was then contacted by Mii from the Flame Emperors. She wanted to acquire a new skill but couldn’t defeat the monsters alone. Maple was happy to help, especially as she could just sit on her [Throne of the Heavenly King] and negate all damage. After Mii blew up everything, they went for tea and cakes where they met Frederica and Kasumi.
The next event is beginning now and Maple and Sally have agreed to team up. This time, it’s a tower with ten floors. Each team gets their own tower so there’s no danger of meeting other players. They can also select the difficulty. Maple and Sally have gone for the hardest one. The admins are watching Maple with interest as they believe they may have come up with some bosses that would be the ultimate anti-Maple monsters.

What did you think?
I’m just going to get this out of the way first. The CGI on the second floor of the dungeon was not good. It stood out like a dance routine in an idol anime and not in a good way. Please don’t do that again. With that out of the way, it was yet another fun episode in which we got to see Maple doing what Maple does. The funniest thing about the little adventure with Mii was that Maple sat there through a volcanic explosion without a worry in the world. Presumably, only Mii is protected from her own magic so Maple took it like a champ and probably didn’t even think about it.
One thing that is starting to concern me is the way the developers are trying to beat Maple. I didn’t think the point of a game was to make it so difficult that no one could defeat it. They did that before in the first season where the phoenix should have been impossible for anyone to beat. I’m also wondering why no one is watching Payne, especially as he’s already on the fifth floor. Are they not worried about him because he is more conventional in his approach to the game? Finally, we didn’t see Sally’s ability that finished off the second floor’s boss, but I get the feeling it will be the perfect counter to Maple since the boss had taken all of Maple’s abilities. Does that mean at some point this season Maple will lose control and need to be taken down?
