BOFURI: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, so I’ll Max Out My Defense (Episode 21) – Maxing Defense and Setting Up a Base

What happened?

Everyone arrived in the game world together. Sally was delighted to see that it was the same world as the solo missions, especially as she scouted the entire world, marking places of interest on the map. She shared the map with everyone in Maple Tree who then split into two groups to take on the monsters and win some medals. Well, that was after they defeated the first monster that appeared almost instantly. It did give Kanade a chance to show off Sou’s powers.

Maple’s team found their way to an underground location where they fought a sludge monster. It looked like they had won, but it kept hurting them long after it appeared down. They took to the sky on Syrup’s back and pondered how best to attack. May and Yui had the answer and began throwing spiked bombs at it, over and over again. Sally almost felt sorry for the monster.

Meanwhile, the others found another monster which pinned them down in the middle of a forest. Sou managed to protect everyone and then Iz set up a trap to reveal the monster’s location. As soon as they knew where it was Kasumi and Kuromu took it out with ease. Two medals on the first day wasn’t a bad outcome, however, it was getting dark which meant more monsters would be coming out. They found a cave to fortify and prepared for a long night.

What did you think?

There were some entertaining fights in this episode even if they were a little too quick. Damn, these overpowered players. Anyhow, the best part was when they decided to turn a massive cave system into their own personal dungeon. Does that mean they’re the bosses? It certainly looks that way. Those poor monsters didn’t stand a chance when they wandered in to get them. Still, it meant that Maple Tree could relax and enjoy the apparent luxuries that Iz and Fey are able to create at will.

I love that it’s not just about Maple anymore. Sure, she is still the main character and it will never get old watching her larp her way through everything, but now we’re seeing just how powerful the other characters are. Iz has undergone the biggest transformation as she seems to relish the idea of setting traps and causing mayhem. All of the characters are getting a chance to shine so it’s probably only a matter of time before we see more of the other guilds too.
