NewWorld Online has just added a fourth level so Maple and Sally get the guild together and head to face the boss on level three. They needn’t have bothered everyone as Maple takes it out solo. On to Level Four!

What happened?

Level Four has been released and word has spread among the players. Sally and Maple are determined to get there as quickly as possible so they call Maple Tree together to fight the boss on Level Three. Everyone is ready to fight, but before anyone can do anything Maple charges in using her [Atrocity] skill. Kanade uses some magic to give Maple multiple forms, but that was the only thing anyone else got to contribute. To be fair, they were expecting it. Anyhow, on to Level Four.

Level Four has a traditional Japanese feel to it with cobblestone roads and steeped roofs. There are two moons in the sky and the air is full of Sakura blossoms. It is spectacular. They decide to split up and explore. Then, they can share information later. Maple sees Mii from the Flame Emperors guild and follows. Bizarrely, she changes her avatar and then goes into a building. Maple follows and finds her in what is essentially a cat cafe. Turns out Mii’s persona is just an online front that she feels she is unable to stop now. Maple promises to keep her secret.

Not long after getting to Level Four a Christmas-themed event began, transporting all the players to a new map where they are instantly attacked by monsters. Maple uses [Atrocity] and fights back. However, she soon bumps into Payne. He suggests that they work together since it would give him a chance to see her fight. Last time, he was on the receiving end and didn’t get to see much of it. They fight their way through the event and then everyone meets up at Maple Tree for a Christmas celebration!

What did you think?

It feels like forever since the first season aired, but it was also remarkably easy to slip back in. Maple is still Maple. There is a wonderful sense of calm about this series even when they are facing giant monsters and swarms of killer bees. This is what I want the first VRMMO to be like. I would play it for days. Anyhow, it was a nice way to reacquaint us with most of the main characters. Some got more time than others, but I think we touched on everyone. I was delighted to see Kasumi get some time to herself and the new equipment that came with her [Purple Phantom Blade] was amazing. The after-effects were funny too, mind you.

One thing I did note was the introduction of a new developer who seems to be determined to do something that would nerf Maple. Thankfully, the other developers don’t think that’s fair and are quite clearly Maple fans now, even if she does the unexpected every single time. No one would have expected her to team up with Payne in this event, but it happened. Two of the strongest players working together made for an unstoppable team. The honey attack from the bees will no doubt be something that Payne tries to use on Maple next time they are going head-to-head, but I’m sure Maple will have acquired another new skill by then.
