Applications of BOFURI Technology! (Sunday Sevens)
In BOFURI: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, so I’ll Max Out My Defense, a week in NewWorld Online is the equivalent of two hours in the real world. Imagine what you could do with all that extra time… I am?
Applications of BOFURI Technology
I’ve finally stopped thinking about last year and have now set my sights on the future. One of my favourite anime shows from the Winter 2020 season is BOFURI: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, so I’ll Max Out My Defense. In this show, Maple and Sally play a virtual reality massively multiplayer online game similar to Sword Art Online. It’s a fun and thoroughly entertaining series, but there was a line of dialogue that really stuck with me. It turns out that a week in the game is the equivalent of two hours in real life. That sounds crazy, but have you ever fallen asleep had a long and complex dream only to wake up and it’s only a couple of minutes later?
That’s not conclusive proof that it is possible, but as someone famous once said, time is relative. So, for this post, I’m going to give you seven possible applications for this technology for when someone finally gets around to building it. These ideas are free to anyone that can make it happen. In return, all I ask is to be one of the first to get access.
7. Beating that Deadline
This isn’t going to work for all jobs, but it would come in handy with my job, for sure. There is a lot of time-sensitive work and it often seems to all need to be done at the same time. Well, you can forget about the extra pressure when you can log into a virtual representation of your office and complete eight hours of work in less than six minutes.
Even with my attempts at writing fiction, I can see it being useful. I tend to do one to two hours of writing every day, so with this technology that would be almost an extra week’s worth of writing every single day. This is something I need in my life. There is never enough time to do everything.
6. Recovery Time
Let’s say you’ve just had an operation and find yourself stuck in a bed for some extended period of time. You’re unable to move, so you’ve just got to sit there and wait. Well, why not wait in a digital world where you can run around and slay monsters? Sure, it’ll take longer, but I’d take that over being stuck staring at a hospital ceiling.
On the flip side, imagine the potential for coma patients. You would potentially be able to talk and meet with them in a digital world. Do I need to go on? This application would be incredible.
5. Cramming for the Big Exam
Similar to the work application, but think of all you could learn with more time. How about other languages? They say the best way is to immerse yourself, well with this method, you could easily spend weeks at a time practising in a digital world. There is just so much potential here.
Missed school because of an illness or something similar? Now you can catch up in the blink of an eye. Have a book report due tomorrow and you haven’t read the book yet? You’ll never be able to read it in time… Hang on. Now you can.
4. Need to unwind?
If this was available now, how amazing would it be to get home from a crappy day at work or whatever and be able to login to a digital spa and just relax for an hour? It would be like having a week-long spa every night. Sure, your body isn’t going to benefit from it, but being able to clear your head and forget about all the stress. We often don’t spend enough time relaxing and looking after our mental health. Well, not any more!
Get all the benefits of a calm walk on the beach with the sun shining and palm leaves rustling in the wind without leaving your home. Imagine how much more relaxed everyone would be.
3. Going on Vacation
Admittedly, you could potentially take a one week vacation every night of the week. See different digital worlds and experience a thrilling adventure or just relax on the digital beach. You could even go with the whole family and spend some quality time levelling up by clearing dungeons. You know that at some point with this technology, Google will create a digital replica of this world and you’ll be able to go anywhere and see anything as if you were actually there. And with personal copies of the world, you wouldn’t have all the crowds.
2. Are you not Entertained?
For this one, I’m going to bundle gaming, watching TV and Movies, sports, etc into one category. This is the application we’re probably most familiar with from anime like Sword Art Online and BOFURI so it makes sense. You can create your avatar and play the different worlds and again you can get so much more done when you can log in for two hours and spend a week fighting orcs and dragons, or even watching One Piece from start to finish!
1. Sex Sells
Let’s face it, any technology that takes off is often quickly adopted into the sex industry. And frankly, whether you would use something like this for this purpose or not, others will and I think that can only be a good thing. With this sort of application, you can cater to any kink or desire in a free and open way. I think you would see a lot less physical attacks in real life and there would be a reduction in diseases and accidental pregnancies. I don’t want to get too political with this, but it seems like the happy medium that all sides could get behind.
I’m sure there are a lot more applications for this technology and I welcome them all. This would be incredible and I know I would use a bunch of them. Time is such a precious commodity that it would be amazing to suddenly have that much more. Obviously, the example in BOFURI is just that and there’s no telling how much the ratio could be improved upon. Get ready for immortality! I can’t wait! Thanks, again for reading.

Haha every single day you enter the office just to say “wait what was I working on again?”, that’d be funny. I’m sure companies themselves would use the technology too. Tax time? Get the finance team in there. Tight deadline on a new proposal? Hop in. Things just aren’t adding up? You know what to do!
But on the plus side, maybe that would mean people could get away with only working like 30 min per day or less… depending on the job of course.
For sure. There would need to be rules about use in the work place, but then if you can run off to the spa for three days on your lunch break…
[…] This episode was a little bit slower than the previous ones as Maple and Sally found their new home, created a guild, and then looked for players to join them. In typical fashion, Maple wanted to go to level one to find fun players and wasn’t too worried about their levels and abilities. This was great, but it wasn’t my favourite element. I think it was excellent that the series took a brief moment to look at the after-effects of being in a game for a week, even if it was only a couple of hours in the real world. I could absolutely see this being an issue with a setup like this, but that hasn’t tempered my desire to do it as laid out in my post Applications of BOFURI Technology! […]
“Let’s face it, any technology that takes off is often quickly adopted into the sex industry.”
There were a number of “phone sex” (sex chat in PM’s) entrepreneurs in Ultima Online back in the day…
The dev’s hated them, the players were annoyed as hell at them, but they never could entirely stomp them out. There was a rumor at the time that they hooked up with RMT scum to provide their source of in-game gold.
Haha! That’s excellent. I could totally see digital brothels appearing in World of Warcraft without the admins being aware until too late. I’m pretty sure characters can have sex anyway, so it wouldn’t be that much of a surprise.
They’d pop up all over the place in a fully immersive online world. It would be almost impossible to police. Might as well give them their own digital world and watch as it becomes one of the more popular ones.

[…] It also appears that Cayna had been playing Leadale for a long time as she was pretty overpowered and feared as the Silver Ring Witch. I’m assuming that this was because of her medical condition and how the game was her only escape. As such, she probably played it pretty much all the time as there wouldn’t be much that she could do in her hospital bed. This was a potential use for VRMMORG technology that I mentioned in a post I wrote almost two years ago – Applications of BOFURI Technology! […]
Maybe with that technology widespread, deadlines become exceedingly short because it becomes the norm to use it to complete tasks. (You have 15 minutes to finish this project, go use bofuri tech) RIP.
Sex definitely, I wonder if VR stuff alr has sex in them, haven’t tried VR headset yet
Corporations always looking to exploit their workforce…
I think the most promising application would be for people that are bedridden. Imagine if the family could visit with a loved one in a coma or something similar.
The sex industry is often early technology adopters so I could absolutely see that taking off.
