BOFURI: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, so I’ll Max Out My Defense (Episode 24) - Maxing Defense and the Big Final Battle

It’s the last day of the event and the map is swarming with monsters. All they have to do is survive the day, but then the final boss shows up and it is massive. There’s nowhere to run so they must fight!

What happened?

The map is shrinking and with all the monsters running around, there is nowhere to hide. They can’t even run because there are too many of them. Then, the final boss appears and it must be more than one hundred metres tall. If they want to survive the event and claim the medals they’ve earnt then they will need to defeat that monster. Payne and Mii take their clans to defeat all the smaller monsters so they can focus on the big one without interruptions.

While they do that, Maple Tree focuses on the big boss to stop it from running around. They’re better suited to fighting bosses anyhow. Maple attacks using [Atrocity] which Sally and Kanade multiply with their abilities. The Atrocities swarm over the final, biting and scratching as the others all continue to attack. May and Yui hammer the boss from its back while Kuromu offers them some protection. Then, the monster takes to the sky, however, Maple and Sally are still on its back. They attack its wing and eventually bring it to the ground.

Maple saves Sally when it looked like they were doomed and then the others catch up along with Mii and Payne. No matter what they do, the final boss keeps getting back up and fighting back. It can even summon meteors to crash into its opponents. Finally, Maple jumps off Syrup’s back and tells it to shoot her at the boss. She turns and activates [Devour], slamming into the monster’s face and then chewing her way through to its back. Sally catches her before she hits the ground. The big boss crumbles before them. They won!

What did you think?

Seriously, this episode was just incredible. This looked like so much fun. I’ve played a lot of team sports through the years, experiencing the highs and lows and quite frankly this sort of thing would produce the exact same feelings. If they do ever invent full-dive MMORPGs then the real world is going to crumble. The excitement of going into these worlds and living these lives would be something that would be hard to get away from. People can get addicted to all sorts of things and I could see this being a real problem. Ah, but what a problem to have…

Anyhow, the fight with the big boss was amazing and the music they used just amped up the atmosphere. I absolutely love this series and while this season hasn’t been quite as stunning as the first, it is without a doubt a great continuation. I also loved that the developers were shown that it’s not about creating unbeatable monsters or limiting the amount of power these characters get. It’s about entertaining them and they will come away from this event absolutely pumped up. They will tell their friends in the real world. Everyone will want to play and everyone will want to take down Maple. It won’t be possible, but it will be fun watching them try. Bring on season three!
