Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! (Episode 3) – The Asai Family Wants to Look Out for Us!

Ami Asai is helping at her father’s cafe. She was in the midst of admiring Sakurai when Uzaki came in. The mood changed. Even her father seemed more relaxed. Then she saw it… them… and understood.
Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! (Episode 3) – The Asai Family Wants to Look Out for Us!
What happened?
Ami Asai is a senior at the same college as Sakurai and Uzaki, however, this is her first time meeting Uzaki and she’s having some trouble working things out. Luckily, her father is there to straighten it all out, allowing them to sit back and enjoy. To make things even better, Sakurai was bringing Uzaki a fresh jug of water when she jumped out of her chair to get one herself. The full jug went flying, coating them both in icy-cold water. Now, this is entertainment.
The next day, Sakurai called in sick with a cold. When Uzaki found out, she was determined to help, so Akihiko gave her Sakurai’s address. She showed up half expecting him to be fine and then they could play games together. However, he wasn’t fine. She quickly rushed to the store to grab some food and medicine and then came back and prepared him dinner. When he was done, she put down a bowl of hot water and a cloth. Bath time!
To celebrate Sakuria’s return to health, Ami and Akihiko invited him and Uzaki to a Korean BBQ. Of course, it was more so that they could enjoy the spectacle that is Sakurai and Uzaki. They were not disappointed, especially when Sakurai pointed out that he lived near the campus and if someone saw Uzaki going to his apartment, it would be bad news for her. Ami already knew, but it was some delicious information all the same.

What did you think?
I love Ami and Akihiko and their telepathic conversations as they watch Sakurai and Uzaki. It’s funny that Akihiko told Ami not to interfere but he’s doing everything he can to ensure it continues. He gave Uzaki his address after all. However, Uzaki really stepped up when she found the sickly Sakurai. Sure, she can be loud and obnoxious, but she’s not a bad person and her energy is contagious. Anyhow, we got to see a little more of the serious side of their relationship and it was nice that Sakurai acknowledged it.
Recently, I found a review where the author was complaining about how this show effectively demonised introverts. To an extent, I can see what they are saying. After all, Sakurai doesn’t appear to be sad being on his own. If anything, he seemed quite content. Then, you have Uzaki who isn’t an introvert who decides to get in his business and ensure that he isn’t alone. The thing is, it’s not the show that’s saying introverts are losers, it’s not even Uzaki, although she did basically say it. Her actions are misguided in the belief that everyone must be like her, but then, that’s kind of how everyone is. That doesn’t make her a bad person for trying to get close to Sakurai.
I’m as big of an introvert as the next person and at no point did I feel attacked. I even see myself in Sakurai so it would have been easy for me to take Uzaki’s comments personally. Instead, I found it funny. Very funny. I think people need to learn how to laugh at themselves a little more and stop being offended by everything.
