What happened?

The owner of the shop they visited before going to the Dragon’s Den, Kilkapul, was the third Heavenly King. He had been waiting in the village of Izale for Seiya to return. After seeing him defeat Beel Bub, he knew that he couldn’t win. So, he killed all of the villagers, including his family, and then sacrificed himself to invoke the most terrifying summoning magic. They watched in horror as Krosde Thanatus, a Reaper, appeared before them and attacked. Seiya tried to fight back, but it was too powerful. Ristarte opened a portal to the Divine Realm just in time for Seiya to force them all through.

However, Krosde Thanatus was able to follow them between dimensions. The gods were alerted to its presence, but none of them were a match for it. Luckily, Seiya has already worked out a plan to defeat it. He just needed to make sure that they got there before it got to them. He led Krosde Thanatus to the top of a tower where he knew that Valkyrie would be painting. Krosde Thanatus attacked once more. However, a stray attack destroyed Valkyrie’s painting, enraging the god enough for her to invoke her full powers to defeat it.

After seeing Valkyrie’s full power, Seiya demanded that she train him to use her most powerful attack, even if it was a skill that would kill a mortal. She reluctantly agreed, although she was sure to let Ristarte know that she would have to pay for her aid… one way or another… Mash and Elulu continued to train under Ariadoa, who helped them to unlock their potential. Meanwhile, Ristarte was summoned to see Ishtar, who told them they needed to return to Gaeabrande as soon as possible. The Demon Lord was making a move!

What did you think?

I loved that Valkyrie came back into things. It was obvious that their last meeting wasn’t going to be the last time that we saw her, and this one was pretty funny in its own right. Of course, the Goddess of Destruction likes to paint… She needs a hobby, just like everyone else. It was also hilarious seeing Ristarte trying to step up her game and commit to helping Seiya. I’m not sure exactly what a doll made of her hair will accomplish, but Seiya seemed to want it. Valkyrie’s reaction to the hair doll was excellent as she told Ristarte that she wouldn’t be grabbing her boobs anymore because she was clearly in need of help! See, she’s powerful, perceptive, and not willing to take advantage of people. Valkyrie is awesome!

I mentioned a couple of episodes ago that they might come to regret Ristarte stopping Seiya from attacking the storekeeper, and that truly came to pass. The fact that he instantly drew his sword should have told her that this wasn’t just the usual caution from Seiya. He clearly knew something was up, whether he could explain it or not. I don’t think she’ll question his intuition again. What Kilkapul did was absolutely savage!

At the end of the episode, I noticed that Seiya didn’t say that he was ‘Perfectly Prepared’ before heading back to Gaeabrande, and I was a little disappointed that Ristarte then commented on it. It would have been a great moment to look back on at a later stage when things get dire! Those who noticed would have been treated to a much more satisfying moment, and those who didn’t would get to go back and see the intricacies of the foreshadowing. Having Ristarte spell it out for us showed a lack of faith in the viewer, which was annoying, especially as it’s been brilliantly subtle until now. Ristarte’s narration at that point was entirely unnecessary.
