What happened?

The world changed when the dimension known as Mato appeared. Gates opened all across Japan allowing demons known as Shuuki to come through. There appeared to be no way to stop them… until humanity discovered the peaches that grew in Mato. When consumed by a girl they would give her a unique power. Of course, this changed the balance of gender equality overnight. The world changed and humanity changed with it.

These overpowered girls are now the only things stopping the Shuuki from pouring through the gates and destroying all of Japan, maybe even the world. There are a number of gates that are fixed to a location, however, gates can also randomly appear. Anyone unlucky enough to wander through has to hope the Demon Defense Force gets to them first. Yuuki was one of those unlucky few. And for Yuuki, the Shuuki found him first.

He ran and was soon found by Kyouka, Chief of the Seventh Demon Defense Force. However, they were surrounded and Kyouka had to make a quick decision. Her power allowed whoever submitted to her as her slave to gain extraordinary powers. If Yuuki were to agree to her becoming his master, they might just get out of it alive. He did. Her powers awakened something incredible in Yuuki. So much so that Kyouka offered him a permanent position with the seventh as the caretaker and her slave…

What did you think?

This is the latest series by Takahiro of Akame ga Kill fame and I’m already absolutely in love with it. This first volume was hilarious. I loved the power shift in the gender dynamics and how that impacted everyone. It was funny seeing Yuuki showing how he was great at cleaning, sewing, and other roles that might have been traditionally considered for women. However, that was just the start.

When Kyouka made Yuuki her slave it created a bond between them that forces her to give her slave an appropriate reward based on what they want. Previously, she had only enslaved Shuuki and they had only ever wanted a piece of pork. Of course, Yuuki is a high school boy and wants different things entirely. So, after the first time, Kyouka rewarded him with a kiss. She may not have wanted to, but her body did it as that is the price for her power.

That alone should be pretty entertaining, but Yuuki is now the caretaker for the seventh Demon Defense Force in Mato where he looks after a dormitory with a number of other girls from the force. They all have unique powers and mostly look down on Yuuki. Things start to change when they see him in action and slowly they start to come around to him, each wanting to become his master too! Poor Yuuki. I can’t wait for the next volume.
