They cannot find the stairs to the fifth floor. They’ve found lots of gold and a green dragon, but no stairs. After days of trying, they are in need of a break. However, the Captain is somehow pressured into taking Sword Maiden shopping!

What happened?
The gold flowing from the dungeon had turned the city into a lively place. There were people out and about at all hours of the day. Having returned from the dungeon after defeating a green dragon, the Captain reluctantly agree to go to the tavern with the others. They agreed that they should take a rest day, and then the Captain returned to the stables to rest. He was surprised to see the Ranger and Myrmidon Monk join him since he had said they could rent a room with all the money they had earned from the dragon kill.
The next morning, Female Wizard revealed that she thought that the Captain should take the Sword Maiden shopping for supplies. He seemed puzzled as it was surely just a one-person job. After a little more pressure, he agreed to take her, much to her delight. They visited the market and then examined some weapons and equipment. There were some nice items, however, they all came attached to a dark and sinister feeling. They left without buying anything.
After helping a lost child find her older sister, they decided to head back to the tavern. However, a priestess who looked remarkably like Sword Maiden approached them. Captain did his best to give her the benefit of the doubt with her harsh but familiar tone as she spoke to Sword Maiden. Then, the rest of her previous party emerged from the alley. Apparently, they wanted her back for a quest, but she didn’t want to go. Captain told her to do whatever she wanted, but then revealed that he wanted her to stay, so she did. However, the party’s wizard seemed to object to her simply leaving…

It’s been over a year since I read the last volume so it’s fair to think I would need a refresher on what’s going on. However, the first chapter of this volume was very bizarre. We were thrown into the fight with the green dragon, which they won. Then, as they recovered from the fight, Female Warrior tapped Captain’s head with her spear, appearing to turn his head to mush. Then, they were checking a treasure chest which appeared to blow up. I had to go back and skim the last pages of volume six to see if that explained what was going on.
It didn’t, and neither did the next chapter. Are we to just assume that the party’s healing capabilities have greatly improved from before? I’ve no idea. Then, this volume turned into a shopping trip which several repeated moments where they were talking about the Doom and the Dungeon. Overall, it felt like the author had run out of story and was just buying time until some real inspiration came along. It wasn’t bad, but it also wasn’t terribly engaging either.
The most interesting part was at the end when Sword Maiden’s old party showed up and asked her to come back. That should open the door for us to see what happened to her before, especially since they talked about leaving her in the tavern for her safety. Then, there was the wizard who seemed awfully sketchy. It does promise to make the opening of the next volume exciting at least, whenever that’ll be released. They did start talking about the stairs to the fifth floor and how they might have to start at the beginning and see if they missed anything. I mentioned the dark space on the second floor that is unmapped in my review of volume six and I’m still convinced that the answer is there.
