Lycoris Recoil (Episode 2) – The more the merrier
What happened?
During the arms deal that cost Takina her role in the Lycoris program, a hacker known as Walnut gained entry to their systems. Not long after, the Alan Institute attempted to kill Walnut. When they failed a hit was put out to finish the job. Well, Walnut didn’t fancy that and contacted Mika for assistance. He sent Chisato and Takina to pick up Walnut and get them to safety. Unfortunately, something went wrong and Walnut ended up picking them up.
The car they were driving was then hacked by Walnut’s rival hacker, Robota. He wanted to drive them into the water, but they managed to regain control at the last second. However, there was still a group of assassins on their tail. They hid in an abandoned supermarket but were soon cornered. Chisato started to take out their enemies, clearing a path for their escape. But then, she saw one had been shot by Takina, so she bandaged him up before following. The assassin tried to warn her not to go that way, but Walnut and Takina had already gone out the door.
Walnut was gunned down instantly. The assassin, having completed their mission pulled back, leaving Chisato and Takina to collect the body and the suitcase and leave. A little while after they’d gone, Walnut sat up. Although it wasn’t Walnut. It was Mizuki in the squirrel costume while the real Walnut was in the suitcase that Takina had used as a shield… Anyhow, Walnut is dead, but Kurumi has now joined the LycoReco team.
What did you think?
This series is fantastic. I love the energy and enthusiasm that Chisato displays and how quickly she can flip a switch and turn serious and become an unstoppable warrior. I have to admire her stance to not kill anyone, especially how she often ends up helping them. No doubt, this will come back to help her when the time is crucial. Also, I’m going to call it now, but I think Takina will be given the chance to return to Lycoris, but she will need to betray Chisato. However, she will shot her with Chisato’s gun and make it look like she killed her. Classic fake betrayal kill-shot.
However, the best moment in this episode for me was when the guy working for the Alan Institute came into their cafe just when Chisato found Walnut. She almost said her name out loud too but was stopped just in time. That was some nice subtle tension. Of course, the real issue here is that Shinji Yoshimatsu saw the picture that confirmed Walnut’s death and Chisato was standing next to the body. I loved the way the episode ended with him asking Mika what they did for work.

I loved Takina’s expression when she saw Chisato walk through a hail of bullets. It’s like she was astonished and furious at the same time!
The gun-play’s well animated in this episode. In the series as a whole, in fact!
Yeah. The gun-play is really well done. I loved the scene where Takina was hiding behind the suitcase and using it for cover.
The best thing about this series is the reactions between Takina and Chisato. I love how it develops as the story progresses too.
