Tsugu Tsugumomo (Episode 23) – Total War
What happened?
A boat Tsugumomo takes to the sky with the inhabitants of Mayoiga aboard. Then, it vanishes, heading towards the Kamioka region and Kukuri. Honoka tries to intercept them as they pass through her region which neighbours Kamioka and appears to make pretty quick work of defeating them, but it was just a projection by Mimane, the mirror Tsugumomo.
The real ship arrived in Kamioka and the Tsukumogamis approached Kukuri. Miurahi believed that if he approached Kukuri alone, she would face him one on one and it appeared that he was right. Their fight started and Kukuri seemed to be struggling. That was until she removed the barrier she’d created over Kamioka to keep Azami out. With her full power returned, she resumed her true form and obliterated Miurahi.
Kukuri was about to finish it when Kazuya tried to intervene. It was all for nought, however, as Azami pierced Miurahi’s heart and took his shard. She used it to revive the lifeless body of Kazuya’s mother that she had been looking over since they were banished. With Kanaka awake, Azami was ready to finish things off once and for all, and by finished things off, they mean kill Kazuya.

What did you think?
This series has been amazing and this really was an outstanding episode. The tone varies from episode to episode, but this one was focused on the battle between the gods and the Tsukugomamis. As has been the case with this series, the fights were spectacular and Kukuri taking her true form was one of my favourite moments, although probably not Taguri’s. Anyhow, the reveal about Kazuya’s mother and the fact that Kazuya made Azami was great and really makes for a crazy final episode.
There wasn’t much in the way of fan service in this one, although Kanaka in her new evil form more than made up for that. Not to mention Kukuri in her true form, which was also pretty special. I can’t wait to see what happens in the finale and I’m expecting an amazing bath scene to make up for the lack of one in this episode.
