Cautious Hero: The Hero Is Overpowered but Overly Cautious (Episode 12) – The Hero Is Overpowered But Overly Cautious

Desperate to save Seiya, Ristarte, Mash, and Elulu rush to the Demon Lord’s castle, ignoring the rules and arrive just as Seiya opens the Gate of Valhalla. With the Demon Lord’s chain reaction in place, if Seiya dies here, it’s game over.
What happened?
Having discovered the truth behind Seiya and Ristarte’s past, they can’t help but want to rush to his aid. Even with the Demon Lord’s Chain Reaction which would kill them there and on their homeworlds, Ishtar cannot convince them to give up. Ristarte breaks the rules by opening a portal to the final showdown but is prepared to face the consequences. They arrive just as Seiya opens the Gate of Valhalla and traps the Demon Lord within. Using the gate will kill the summoner, especially a mere mortal like Seiya. Ristarte breaks the rules again to heal his wounds, but somehow the Demon Lord breaks free and casts a spell that would annihilate the entire world. Seiya, however, was ready for this and summons yet another Gate of Valhalla to swallow the first one and the Demon Lord within. This time it is successful, but there’s nothing Ristarte can do to save Seiya.

What was your favourite element?
I’m not crying, you’re crying! Seriously though, this was another incredible episode and to drop it on us early over the Christmas break was brutal, but I’m also so grateful as I’m not sure I could have waited much longer. It was amazing seeing Seiya realise exactly who Ristarte was and was just happy that he was able to save her this time. I don’t know why, but I am a bit of a sucker for a story where the hero dies to save everyone. I also really enjoyed the scene where Ristarte was going to see Ishtar for her punishment and all the other gods that had come into contact with Seiya were there to wish her well, in their own way, anyhow.

What have you learnt?
I just mentioned about how I’m a big sucker for the hero sacrificing themselves and I also get annoyed when the writers pull a switcharoo and everything was fine in the end, but I think this one worked really well. The idea that the Gate of Valhalla swallowed the Chain Reaction too was a nice touch and meant that Seiya only died on Gaelbarde and his soul returned to his real body back in Japan. Ishtar then punishing Ristarte by sending her to Ixphoria, a SS Danger Class world and giving her Seiya as her hero was a great moment. Then, when you realise that the world they’ve got to save is the one they failed to save the first time around, it all comes together. I really hope there’s a second season, but I’m also equally happy with this ending.

There’re few things better than a well-crafted plot, propelled by wonderful characters, comes together. That’s just what happened here. Glad to see you enjoyed it!
Agreed. It’s great when it’s just one or the other, but to get wonderful characters and a carefully developed plot all at once is a treasure. I was really enjoying this show from the beginning, but the ending was an unexpected delight.
