Gigant (Volume 9) – I Promise You! I’ll Come Back!
What happened?
With Satan back in action, they all prepared to fire their lasers at him. However, when Chiho saw Rei nearby, she rushed to protect him. The others urged her to go and protect Rei and her unborn child. She’s reluctant to leave, but she can’t leave Rei in harm’s way. They flew to the top of a tower where she asked him if he was still feeling Satan’s influence on him. He wasn’t, but he begged her not to go back. She’s pregnant, leave it to someone else. However, she can’t walk away from the fight. Chiho knows how strong she is and how much everyone needs her to fight. Rei begged her again but relented when she promised to come back.
While Chiho had been away Shinozawa had lost an arm to one of Satan’s attacks. They tried to shrink down and attack him PaPiCo-style, but Satan used his abilities to send Shinozawa, Kitou, and Heffner flying. He squeezed their bodies with his mind. Momonoki flew into Satan’s body and exploded out. However, it was too late for Shinozawa whose head exploded. Kitou died moments later from his injuries. Heffner was hanging on, but only just. That was when Chiho arrived flying in from above. This time, however, she didn’t shrink to attack. She increased her size even more.
Chiho landed on Satan, squashing him with her bum. It wasn’t enough. She grabbed him and slammed him underwater, crushing him against the river bed. He burst back out to continue his attack. However, given Chiho’s enormous size, she grabbed him like a doll and ripped him in two. Even then, he didn’t stop fighting until Chiho popped his head off. They had won! Chiho was beside herself when she realised that Kitou and Shinozawa had both died in the battle. If only she had gotten there sooner. Then, something huge appeared in the sky, getting bigger and bigger. The AI’s facility hovered over Tokyo and then sucked Chiho, Momonoki, and Heffner aboard before climbing back into orbit.

What did you think?
Well, it was yet another page-turner! The battle with Satan was insane, especially as Shinozawa and Kitou were killed. It was nice to see Chiho come up with another way to kill these monsters. Who knew they could get even bigger? Seeing her pull Satan apart like a helpless bug was incredibly satisfying. As for Rei, I can understand why he doesn’t want her to fight, but where would they run to? If Satan isn’t defeated, the entire world would be in danger and many, many more lives would be lost before Chiho would be forced to fight. It wasn’t as if there was anyone else who could do it. The soldiers from the future were well-trained, but they lacked the creativity to use the tools at their disposal effectively. That’s why Chiho was so successful.
Then, we finally got to meet Socrates and Plato and I laughed so hard when we discovered that they were effectively now a couple of middle-aged virgins who had never studied women and as such didn’t understand them. They offered to never kill another human if the girls let them touch their boobs! Of course, they said no and proceeded to ignore them. It felt a little odd that they just stood there rather than taking the chance to kill these oversized Beavis and Butthead clones. However, the United States jumped at the chance, launching five nuclear missiles at their facility. The world watched as it exploded in high Earth orbit, but what happened to Chiho, Momonoki, and Heffner? I’m guessing they used time travel to escape, but to when?
