What happened?

When Fremy runs, Adlet slips a letter into his horse’s saddle and sends it back to Nashentania so that he can pursue Fremy. She tries to give him the slip, but no matter what she does he seems to be closing in on her. Then, to her surprise, he gets in front of her, blocking her way. She tells him that he has to leave her to kill the Demon God on her own. He’s not going to let that happen. There are six Braves for a reason. They all need to fight if they are to succeed. However, Fremy tells him that if she meets other Braves, they will try to kill her, and she will try to kill them. Adlet steals her gunpowder and convinces her to travel with him to the land of Howling Demons.

On their way, they come across a temple close to the peninsula. Inside, they are shown a replica of a device installed in a temple standing at the entrance to the land of Howling Demons. Once the Braves have gone past it, they will activate a barrier trapping the fiends inside and making their journey to fight the Demon God a little easier. However, Fremy is concerned that she will be forced into combat with the other Braves. Adlet promises to protect her which only seems to make her mad. Then, to no surprise, they are attacked by Nashentania and Goldov, who warn Adlet that Fremy is dangerous.

What did you think?

This series is absolutely packed with mysteries. There’s misdirection aplenty and hints at things to come. I love how Fremy uses her right eye with her sight on her rifle despite it being covered by a black bandage. The scenes between Adlet and Fremy were excellent. I loved the tension as he tried to talk her out of shooting him. The way he’s constantly talking makes it hard to take him that seriously but when things happen, he’s so quick to react and deal with the situation. He says he’s the world’s strongest man, but there’s more to him than that. We saw that with how he fought in the tournament.

So, Goldov and Nashentania believe that Fremy is the Brave killer and judging by her actions, it’s hard to say she isn’t or that she at least has something to hide. The way this series puts the heroes against one another and constantly shifts allegiances is fascinating and it’s only just beginning.

On top of that, I love the animation style and the music they’ve used for this series. It lends itself perfectly to the theme they’ve got going – Incan/Mayan/Aztec. The character designs are also fantastic. The flower in Fremy’s hair and the mix of tones in Adlet’s hair really make them pop, especially against the muted tones of the forest and the grey stone of the buildings. A lot of attention to detail has gone into this series and it shows.

  1. I forgot that Fremy has such a strange appearance / design. While I don’t like using this descriptor, there’s a lot of “edge” there haha.

    • For sure, and it’s not just the design. She’s constantly going on about killing Adlet or him killing her.
