Having defeated Clayman, Rimuru got to enjoy the rest of Walpurgis as a fully-fledged Demon Lord. Once he got home, however, he needed to catch up on his plans for the Kingdom of Falmuth, something Diablo has been taking care of!
That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime (Episode 49) – Demons and Strategies
What happened?
While Rimuru had been away at Walpurgis, Diablo had been busy putting Rimuru’s plan into action. The Kingdom of Falmuth had launched an attack on Tempest which cost many of the residents their lives, Shion included. That was the deciding factor in Rimuru becoming a Demon Lord. However, he didn’t want it to be widely known that he destroyed the Falmuth army single-handedly so they blamed it on Veldora. Now, they just needed to stop anything further from happening. Luckily, Diablo had taken the King of Flamuth, the archbishop, and the head mage, Razen as prisoners. After Shion had taken out her frustration on them, Diablo took them back to Falmuth with a plan to put Youm as the new king.
Of course, Diablo had to put the prisoners back together, but that gave him the chance to bend them to his will and ensure they acted accordingly. Once back in Falmuth, the king was presented to the nobles in a box… Razen explained how Veldora was awoken by the fighting and massacred both sides. However, Rimuru fought the dragon which gave Youm the time to save the three survivors. It was not easy convincing the nobles to listen to him, and Razen had to go to some extremes to stop one from angering Diablo. Anyhow, Diablo revived the king and gave the nobles three options, knowing full well that they would only really have one to pick. Then, he returned to Tempest to await their decision.
What did you think?
There was a recap episode that was released about a week before this episode and I skipped it. Maybe, I should have watched it as it’s been a while and it took a little for me to remember exactly who was who and what happened, but I got there. Maybe, I’ll revisit it before the next episode. Anyhow, not a lot happened in this episode, but that’s often to be expected with That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. I’m here for the characters and I do enjoy the political machinations of this series. It’s not always action and Rimuru massacring an entire army, but it’s always interesting.
My one takeaway from this episode is that Shion is completely savage. I do love Shion. Also, the fact that Rimuru just let her take her fury out on the three prisoners was a little dark too, but he did just devour an entire army… The sight of Diablo talking to three boxes full of body parts that were covered in a purple haze was bizarre and hilarious. I felt like this might have been a part of Shion’s new cooking ability because it had the same ghastly aura as her food. It was a slow episode, but I’m fine with that. If you’re shocked by this after forty-nine episodes, I think you might need to take the blame for that. I’m looking forward to another twenty-three episodes of this season, and I recently discovered that there was a three-episode OVA that took place between the movie and this season, so I have that to catch up on too. Good times!
