The Seven Luminaries have played their hand and revealed themselves to Rimuru and Diablo. They intend to finish them here and now, but can these old guys in white cloaks really be that dangerous?

What happened?

The Seven Luminaries had severely hurt Hinata and wanted to make sure that she died. As such, they revealed themselves to Rimuru, capturing the Saints at the same time, although one of the Luminaries had been among the Saints from the beginning. They put up a magic barrier and prepared to attack. Shion, however, wasn’t having any of it. She leapt into the air and brought her sword crashing down against the barrier. The Seven Luminaries laughed at her attempt, but then it cracked, and soon, it would be no more. They attacked but Rimuru devoured it with Beelzebub. Or a backup of Beelzebub that Raphael had made, just in case they needed to sacrifice one!

Then, they attacked with Disintegration, targeting Rimuru and Hinata. Raphael was able to activate a new skill for Rimuru that allowed him to take the hit full-on and not feel a thing. That might have come in handy a little while back. Anyhow, Rimuru told Raphael that they would need to talk later. Meanwhile, Diablo who was facing three more of the Seven Luminaries had protected the journalists and simply asked that they tell the truth about what happened here. Then, he told King Edward that he was on his own. Edward begged for his protection and even offered to abdicate the throne to Youm. That’ll do nicely. Diablo turned to face the Seven Luminaries who launched their strongest attack. Diablo laughed it off and then trapped them in a pocket dimension that slowly folded in on itself like a piece of paper being screwed into a ball.

The Seven Luminaries facing Rimuru got a shock too when a massive white gate appeared behind them. Luminous walked out accompanied by Louis Valentin. She scolded them for their actions and then went about healing Hinata. When she was done, she returned to the Luminaries and sentenced them to death. Only one of the Luminaries remained, but he was taken care of by another of Luminous’ men, Nicholas. However, it would appear that the Luminaries had been a front for the merchants who were slowly plotting the downfall of this land. Rimuru took Luminous and her people back to Tempest to discuss the future, but not before Veldora put his foot in his mouth and outed Luminous as a Demon Lord to her followers. She was not amused!

What did you think?

I think this might be my favourite episode of the season so far. I had to laugh when Raphael revealed that she had made a copy of Beelzebub, and then when things got even worse, she was able to roll out Uriel’s Absolute Guard which made him impervious to their attacks. I’m glad that Rimuru noticed that this chain of events was entirely unneeded had she given him Uriel’s Absolute Guard, to begin with and that he demanded they talk later. Raphael had gotten a lot more sassy since evolving from Wise One. Her analysis of Shion was amazing too. Shion’s skill Certain Outcome make it possible for her to do whatever she wants. She just gets cooler and cooler.

Then, as if having Shion on his side wasn’t enough, even forgetting Benimaru, Souei, Veldora, etc, etc, we got to see Diablo show off too and he didn’t need to evolve. He laughed off the attack that would have finished Rimuru without Uriel’s Absolute Guard and then altered reality before scrunching up the Seven Luminaries like a scrap of paper. The best moment was when he was talking with Rimuru about what was happening and Rimuru gave him permission to kill them. I loved how Luminous dealt with them too. There are a lot of characters that happily change sides, but when they find the ones that don’t deserve it, they never let them run away to cause more problems later.

I also enjoyed Hinata’s flashback, which showed that she acquired her skills like Rimuru based on her feelings when she came to this world. However, their conversation after she had been revived when she basically called him a single old guy. Cruel, but fair. Then, the ED played out to scenes of Rimuru’s and Luminous’ parties enjoying a meal and a soak in the hot pool. I wonder if Veldora will ever recover from outing Luminous to her followers.
