That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime (Episode 57) – The Scheming of the Seven Days
What happened?
King Edward believes he has everything he needs to remove his brother and take the throne permanently. He’s going to march his army into Youm’s region and kill the hero and Edmaris. And, while he’s there, he’s going to find the demon who killed Reyheim… or at least, that’s what the Seven Luminaries have convinced him to do. King Edward’s army was accompanied by the Battle Rooks, Saare, Grigori, and Glenda. Grigori is going to go with them to search for the demon. Unfortunately, they hadn’t planned on the demon coming to them.
Diablo informed Hakarou that an army was heading his way and that they were accompanied by a Battle Rook. He recommended that they let Ranga take care of the big guy while Gobta and his team handle the army. Meanwhile, Diablo swooped into Edward’s encampment and attempted to clear his name. He put a barrier over a group of witnesses so that news would get out. He laughed at the evidence that Edward put forward and revealed that no human had ever not succumbed to fear when facing him. The Demon Slayers attacked, capturing Diablo and then hitting him with lightning. Diablo laughed it off and then released his aura.
Everyone but the Demon Slayer commander, Saare, and Glenda collapsed with fear. Diablo was impressed. Then, the Demon Slayer commander worked out who Diablo really was and dropped to his knees, begging for him to spare his life. Saare and Glenda weren’t so quick to surrender. They attacked, but when it became obvious that they couldn’t do anything to Diablo, Glenda ran. Saare continued to fight but he knew it was hopeless. Then, when he was about to give up, three of the Seven Luminaries appeared and attacked the witnesses. Hopefully, Diablo’s shield will hold out!
What did you think?
Quite a bit happened in this episode, but it still managed to end on the same cliffhanger as the previous episode. I hate it when they do that. It always feels like a cheap way to build tension and ensure that everyone is eager for the next episode. This is the third season, I don’t think anyone is casually watching this, unsure as to whether they will continue from week to week. By now, it should be geared to the fans and it should be delivering what they want to see. Admittedly, Ranga destroying an army and then using Grigori like a toy was hilarious. Seeing Diablo unleash his terrifying aura and the moment the Demon Slayer realised who he was was excellent. Who needs Rimuru when he has one of the primordial daemons in your party?
I’m still amazed that everyone was so easily manipulated by the Seven Luminaries. Hinata seemed to understand exactly what they were up to in her team meeting a couple of episodes ago so I’m not sure why she continued to do what they wanted. Sure, she stopped eventually, but that cost Rimuru Gluttony, or so we’ve been led to believe… Anyhow, my guess going forward is that Luminous Valentine will arrive, put the Luminaries in their place, and then save Hinata. We know she’s on her way disguised as Louis Valentin’s maid. Then, Veldora will show up and recognise Luminous, revealing her to Rimuru. Everyone will be happy except the Luminaries and Kind Edward.
