Rokka -Braves of the Six Flowers- (Episode 4) – The Heroes Gather
What happened?
Nashentania and Goldov reveal that Fremy is the Brave killer. Adlet doesn’t believe them, but then Fremy confirms their suspicions. She says that she wants to revive the Demon God and by killing potential Braves, she hopes to have a weak group of heroes. She revealed that Nashentania and Goldov were potential targets, but she’d never heard of Adlet. He manages to convince the others that if Fremy was chosen as a Brave then she must want to defeat the Demon God. As a result, if they continue to fight, he will side with Fremy. Nashentania accepts his words and agrees to stop fighting, although she seems jealous that Adlet would side with Fremy. Meanwhile, Goldov doesn’t seem to like Adlet one bit.
As they approach the temple, they spot fiends in the air dropping bombs. Many more surround them on the ground. They fight their way through before Adlet races on ahead to ensure the temple is safe. He finds an injured woman there who tells him to head to the temple. However, it’s locked. He blows open the lock and then leaps back as two suits of armour rush out and attack. When he looks back at the woman, she transforms into fiend and runs away. Then, then fog descends. Who activated the barrier? Adlet raced into the temple and found no one. Then, the others come in and ask why he activated it. Soon after, another three Braves come in. How can there be seven?

What did you think?
The first thing I noticed about this episode which makes it so fascinating is that the party of heroes are not like any other party. I recently watched Frieren and there the party members are like close family. Here, there is no trust at all and that continues to get strained with every action. The fact that all of the Braves know of one another except for Adlet is interesting. It automatically puts him in the spotlight as the potential fake. Of course, he’s not. We’re seeing this story from his point of view and regularly get internal thoughts which pretty much confirm it’s not him, unless that was to deliberately put us off, but I find that type of storytelling to be frustrating, so I hope that’s not the case.
Adlet was also the only person in the temple when the others arrived so that automatically casts more doubt on him. Nashentania’s outburst was within character, but I mentioned in the earlier episodes that I felt it was deliberate to allow her to act impulsively when she needed to. Could it be Nashentania? She was the one to tell Adlet to go on to the temple alone. Of course, killing Fremy would have been the perfect way to hide a fact Brave within the group so is Goldov the fake? It could still be Nashentania though. Of course, as the Brave Killer, Fremy is going to be the obvious fake… Surely not!
The set-up to this point has been incredible. We don’t know who to trust and who not to. There are lots of unanswered questions too. For example, why was the temple locked? Why was the fiend disguised as a woman? What was the piece of paper that Nashentania knocked off the pedestal? On top of that, I am continually impressed by the designs of the buildings and the characters. I’m glad I finally got around to reviewing this series properly.
