The Promised Neverland (Episode 7) – 011145

The Promised Neverland Title

Sister Krone tempts the children with an offer that’s hard to refuse, but whether either side will remain honourable is yet to be seen.

What did you watch?

For whatever reason, this episode didn’t load up on Funimation at the scheduled time, so I had to put my viewing back until the evening, which meant a blanket ban on social media until then. You know I hate the spoilers, especially so soon after it’s aired. At least give us a chance to watch it.

Do you see what I did there? I moaned about possible spoilers to fill up the preview area and not subject others to spoilers. See, it can be done. Also on the topic of spoilers, I read the first volume of the manga and was surprised at some of the stuff that didn’t make it into the anime, but don’t worry, I won’t talk about that either.

The Promised Neverland Episode 7 Norman Gilda Emma and Don

What happened?

At the end of last week, Sister Krone jumped Norman, Emma, Don, and Gilda in the woods and offered to make them a deal. Well, great news, we started off at the exact moment so we didn’t have to wait long to see what the deal was. Basically, Krone wants to be the Mom and it would help her if the children escaped.

She also revealed that she was once a child in an orphanage and told them about the criteria to become an adult, which is only available to girls. Furthermore, she warned them not to pursue that option, revealing the scar on her chest from when they implanted a device that would stop her heart should she step outside the farm.

Ray received his final gift from Mom for being her informant, which is also the last piece in the puzzle to deactivating the tracking devices. Emma and Norman meet with Krone and discuss the outside world, although Krone doesn’t have much to tell them. She also thinks she discovered their secret that she can use as evidence.

Not to worry though, it would appear that Ray has planned for just this sort of occasion. Krone finds a piece of paper hidden beneath a chest of drawers and believes it to be the evidence she needs to overthrow Mom, but then Mom appears at her door with a sealed letter. It would appear to be bad news although you’d never have guessed from Mom’s expression.

What did you think?

It was nice to see the theory I floated back when Sister Krone first arrived at the house that she had been a child in an orphanage and that it was the same for Mom come true. The downside of this was that we saw more of Krone and her maniacal grinning. It seemed to spread to Norman and Emma, who looked like they had just drawn the winning card on the river with a bad hand.

What was your favourite moment?

It felt like another speedy episode with lots of information to digest. The end credits appeared out of nowhere leaving us on yet another cliffhanger. We also got to see Mom with her calm and sweet exterior deliver what must have been some terrible news to Sister Krone. She really is a terrifyingly good villain.

What was your least favourite moment?

Now, I like a good cliffhanger. It often adds a little excitement to the beginning of the next episode, however, it seems kind of unlikely that someone’s going to get to episode seven and then not watch the next episode because it didn’t end on a cliffhanger. It’s starting to feel a little gimmicky, but that’s a minor criticism because, of course, I’m going to watch the next one.

Who was your favourite character?

It was another episode where no one really outshone anyone else. Ray could possibly get it for all of his schemings and sneaking around, however, I’m going to give it to Mom this week. I just love how sinister she is, while maintaining a gentle and caring demeanour.

Who was your least favourite character?

It seems kind of absurd to say Sister Krone because she’s the go-to disappointment in the series because she doesn’t fit with the overall tone. Ah! Who am I kidding, it’s still Krone. Her facial expressions are all over the place. It’s as if she was made of play dough.

Would you like some more?

They left us with two fairly significant unresolved issues this week. Firstly, what was on the letter Krone found and what was in the letter Mom delivered to Krone? Either way, I can’t see it ending well for Sister Krone and I’m not sure whether her not being there will help them escape or not.

They definitely need to get their plan going, there are only five episodes left and I want to see what’s beyond the wall! Also, did you notice Phil catching Sister Krone snooping? That kid is always up to something!

  1. It was a better episode for Krone, though are right in that she still doesn’t quite fit with the overall tone and her facial expressions are still really hard to take seriously as they go from one to the next. I really enjoyed this episode and it just keeps feeling like we’re getting closer to something and I love how this anime makes me keep wanting to know what that something is.

    • Yeah, I feel like we’re all in for a massive shock! Something that’ll blow the episode one surprise out of the water.
