30 Days of Anime (Years 1 to 5)

30 Days of Anime Year 1 to 5 The Otaku Author

For the last 30 days, I’ve been looking back at some of the anime seasons I’ve covered over the last five years of the Otaku Author. This post looks back at the last 30 days, kind of like a recap of a recap in One Piece…

30 Days of Anime (Years 1 to 5)

As much as I love One Piece, I had to make fun of the excessive use of recaps. I still remember when the Straw Hats were stood on the ramparts looking at Enys Lobby while they showed us a flashback for each of them and then, they recapped what had happened in the last seven episodes (all flashbacks). Infuriating! Anyhow, this isn’t quite like that. I’m not going to list out everything that won each or any of the categories. Instead, I just wanted to look at some numbers from the challenge.

One thing that stood out when I was looking at the winners was that there were a total of ninety different seasons mentioned. There were thirty posts, each with five winners which means it was possible to have one hundred and fifty winners. Now, that would be crazy! Anyhow, being able to select ninety different seasons from the last five years kind of blew my mind. Even crazier is the fact that there were many more shows that didn’t get a mention, but we’re not going to talk about them… Instead, here are the shows that got the most mentions from each year.

Year 1 – Gleipnir (Season One)

Gleipnir had three mentions – Favourite Mystery Anime, Favourite Female Anime Character, and Favourite New Anime. There were five shows all with two mentions, but I think it makes sense that my favourite anime from the year was the most recognised, and I definitely didn’t plan that.

Year 2 – Akame ga Kill! (Season One)

Akame ga Kill! is one of my all-time favourite anime and manga series so I couldn’t be happier to see that it came out on top with five mentions. KonoSuba was a step behind with four, so it was still close. Akame ga Kill! took the Most Emotional Anime, Favourite Action Anime, Favourite Anime Villain, Favourite Anime Couple, and Favourite Anime Fight awards.

Year 3 – My Dress-Up Darling (Season One)

My Dress-Up Darling winning Year Three probably comes as no surprise whatsoever. Walking away with six mentions is probably a little more surprising. Marin… I mean My Dress-Up Darling won Most Emotional Anime, Favourite Anime Couple, Favourite Romance Anime, Favourite Drama Anime, Favourite Female Anime Character, and Favourite New Anime. I can’t wait for the new season!

Year 4 – Summer Time Rendering (Season One) and The Eminence in Shadow (Season One)

That’s right. Year Four gave us the first tie with Summer Time Rendering and The Eminence in Shadow each taking three wins. Summer Time Rendering won Favourite Mystery Anime, Favourite Female Anime Character, and Favourite New Anime. Meanwhile, The Eminence in Shadow claimed the Favourite Isekai Anime, Favourite Anime Fight, and Favourite Male Anime Character.

Year 5 – Highschool Of The Dead (Season One)

It really wasn’t a fair game in Year Five as I rewatched and finally released my reviews of my favourite anime series of all time – Highschool of the Dead. It took a whopping eight titles – Most Nostalgic Anime, Favourite Horror Anime, Most Rewatched Anime, Favourite Anime Protagonist, Favourite Ecchi Anime, Favourite Harem Anime, Favourite Female Anime Character, and Favourite Rewatched Anime. I suppose it makes sense considering it’s my favourite.

Final Thoughts!

I’ve had a lot of fun with my 30 Days of Anime challenge and definitely plan on doing it again next year. Next time, it will only be looking at one year so that’ll make things a little easier. This certainly didn’t give me the time I thought I would have by taking a short break from episode and volume reviews. Talking of manga, I’m hoping to do a version in the summer called 30 Days of Manga so watch out for that.

I’d like to say a quick thanks to everyone who has followed along, liked, and commented on these posts. The engagement has been amazing and has definitely kept me at it for the last thirty days. Regular posts will resume shortly. Thanks for visiting.
