Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead (Volume 10) – Geisha of the Dead
Takemina has a plan to turn things around in Osaka and he’s willing to bet his life that it’ll work. It’s going to be the most epic game of Canning or Zombie ever. Surely, the house can lose… can they?
Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead (Volume 10) – Geisha of the Dead
What happened?
So, Akira took the cans and bought his way into the elite in the castle, leaving everyone else behind. They were angry, but Takemina could understand what made him do it. That said, he had a plan to get their friend back and bankrupt the house at the same time. He pooled all the cans from the traders together and bet them all on a game of Canning or Zombie – the only game in the house with no upper limit. The house took the cans and put them into one pit. Takemina had to run through one of the screens. One led to the cans and the other to a horde of zombies.
He started running towards the wrong one, but then Akira made a noise like a zombie, which made Takemina switch. He burst through the screen and landed in the pile of cans. Everyone was delighted, well other than the elites. However, Takemina then said double or nothing. The house put the winnings in with the original cans, however, it was too much for the pit to hold, making it easy to spot the safe screen. Takemina won and then repeated the process over and over until he had cleaned out the house. Things were just about to change for the better.
So, it turned out that the man in the castle had become a zombie and therefore knew nothing of a vaccine. However, one of the other elites told them about someone who was bitten but didn’t turn. The research facility was attacked by zombies before they could finish their study, but they escaped out West. Looks like they were hitting the road once more. On their journey, they stopped in a town known for its Geishas!
What did you think?
I think I’m starting to sound like a broken record, but this series has really lost its edge. The first six volumes were amazing. They raised some interesting questions and looked at the absurdity of some aspects of modern life. Since then, they’ve gone on to do a number of random and bizarre things that haven’t been anywhere near as interesting. It actually ended up being quite boring, which is not something I was expecting to say about a zombie series, especially considering how it started.
At the end of this volume, they are on a pilgrimage around a bunch of shrines which is also not really doing it for me. However, we did just see a bunch of criminals stealing everything from an elderly couple who are used to hosting pilgrims. Obviously, that means Akira and the gang are going to cross paths with these criminals. Hopefully, things will pick up a little because I’m struggling to find the motivation to keep reading this series.
