Citrus (Volume 4) – True Confessions!

Christmas didn’t go quite as Yuzu planned. Mei was a little too forceful and that made Yuzu scared. Hopefully, they’ll be able to really talk on the school trip to Kyoto… If Yuzu can make it to the train on time!
Citrus (Volume 4) – True Confessions!
What happened?
After all the drama with Matsuri, Mei tried to thank Yuzu by giving her what she thought she wanted. Yuzu did want it, but it was a little too fast. She got scared and pulled back. Unfortunately, Mei took it the wrong way and they ended up avoiding each other for a while. With the school trip to Kyoto coming, Yuzu hoped to be able to clear the air and tell Mei what she wanted to tell her. That was a great plan, but Yuzu oversleep and didn’t make it to the train station in time.
When she got there, the train had already gone, but she did bump into another student from another school who had also missed the train. They caught the next one together. Sara revealed to Yuzu that she was helped by an angel at the train station and hoped that she could meet her again sometime. Yuzu confided in Sara about her troubles with Mei and how she hadn’t been able to say what she really wanted to. Sara gave her confidence which Yuzu resolved to use. Surprisingly, they were at the same hotel, so they said farewell, sure that they would bump into one another again soon.

Yuzu tried to talk to Mei but she was still mad about Christmas and Yuzu being late for the trip. Sara’s younger twin sister saw their argument and realised that Mei was Sara’s angel. Nina was determined to make her sister’s dream come true. The next day, Sara and Nina went to the shrine where Yuzu’s school was going. Then, she found Mei and conspired for her to bump into Sara who then asked Mei out. Mei said yes!
Later that night, Yuzu bumped into Sara in the bath. Sara told her that she spoke with her angel and was now going out with her. Yuzu was delighted for her, but then told her she wasn’t having any luck with her crush, especially now that she was going out with someone else. Sara told her to keep trying and never give up. It wasn’t until the next day that Yuzu realised that Sara and Mei were dating. She still had to tell Mei. On the way there, Nina tried to stop Yuzu because Sara is always stepping aside and never focuses on her happiness. Then, Sara phoned and asked Nina and Yuzu to meet her.

What did you think?
I was really impressed with Sara and Nina. At first, I thought it odd that they were going to drop another love rival into the story, but that’s not what Sara was at all. She was like a wise old wizard sent to give Yuzu the advice she needed and the impetus to do something with it. I felt sorry for Sara, but at the same time, I’m way more invested in Yuzu so I’ll be on her team no matter what.
If anything, I think Mei is the most frustrating character. She’s constantly given Yuzu mixed signals, switching between hot and cold. I can understand Yuzu being scared when Mei came on strong because she is the one that seems to get hurt when Mei goes cold again. Hopefully, they can start to work on that. It’s good that they are dating now with six volumes still to go as the relationship is what needs to be developed now.
Of course, this volume ended with Harumi’s older sister coming home. She seemed quite disturbed that there was a girl at her school with dyed hair and was considering speaking to the student council about it. I get the feeling that she is not a student anymore so her getting involved feels like drama for the sake of it. I think it will give Mei the chance to stand up for Yuzu and show that she really is on her side. It could be interesting, but it could also be forced drama. I’m looking forward to finding out which.
