Citrus (Episode 9) – love is

Matsuri is forcing Mei to ditch the family Christmas party to meet with one of her online clients or she’ll send the picture of them kissing to someone important. Mei agrees, but only to stop Yuzu from getting hurt.
Citrus (Episode 9) – love is
What happened?
Yuzu has been busy baking cakes all day. There have been several disasters but she thinks she’s finally cracked it. The latest one looks particularly impressive. Of course, she’s excited to show Mei when she gets home, however, Mei tells Yuzu and their mother that she won’t be able to make it to the party because she has student council duties. Yuzu is gutted, but her mother reminds her not to make Mei feel guilty. Soon after, Matsuri messages Yuzu to ask for another date. Mei tells her to go, Matsuri needs her.
After school on Christmas day, Yuzu is about to walk home when Harumi reminds her that she could stay and help Mei. Harumi is definitely going home though as the student council is not her scene. As Yuzu turns to return to school, Matsuri shows up and asks her if she will go on the date with her or not. Yuzu decides to go with her as Mei told her to, but she’s still disappointed. They go to a cafe and get cake. Yuzu even invites Matsuri to come to her Christmas party.
Matsuri gets angry when Yuzu mentions Mei and tells her where Mei is. Yuzu is stunned. She’s determined to find Mei and make sure that she’s safe. Matsuri complains again, forcing Yuzu to go back and headbutt her to drive the point home that you don’t do things like that. Luckily, Mei was fine. They head home on the train together where Matsuri tells Mei she won. However, Mei says that she’s actually quite similar to Matsuri in how she feels alone and constantly pushes anyone away. She also points out that Yuzu is one of those people that will never give up on you. Later that night, Mei tries Yuzu’s cake and then gives her a Christmas present…

What did you think?
Even knowing how it ended, there were some tense moments. That scene where Matsuri blackmailed Mei into meeting with her client was far darker than I was expecting. Obviously, it’s not a nice scene, but they really went all out with the music and the ambience. Contrasting that to Yuzu making an army of dead cakes was fairly spectacular. Once again, Harumi stole the show when she pounced on an occupied Yuzu and walloped her with her bag. She’s also full of good ideas.
Then, there was the scene where Mei was meeting the stranger. As soon as Yuzu found out what was going on she pieced it all together. I loved that she headbutted Matsuri. That was well deserved. I knew Mei would be all right. I’ve read the manga, but for a moment there, my heart stopped when she accidentally hung up the phone. So, this arc came to an end and everyone seems to be pretty happy. I actually felt like it ended so well, it could have been the end of the season. Luckily, there are three more episodes to go. Sadly, there’s no way they are going to cover seven volumes of the manga…
