Citrus (Episode 10) – winter of love

Yuzu wasn’t ready for Mei’s Christmas present. It was too fast and it scared her. However, Mei took it the wrong way, which made things awkward. Maybe, the school trip will be the perfect time to reconnect.
Citrus (Episode 10) – winter of love
What happened?
Mei undressed, telling Yuzu she wanted to thank her for helping her to sort out her relationships with her father and grandfather. She wanted to give Yuzu what she wanted for Christmas and was sure she knew what that was. Mei was right, but it was too fast for Yuzu who couldn’t go through with it. However, Mei took the rejection to heart and since then, they’ve barely spoken. With the school trip to Kyoto maybe Yuzu could sort things out, although she had no idea how.
Unfortunately, Yuzu overslept and missed the train. At the station, she met another girl, Sara who was also going on a school trip to Kyoto with her school. She too had missed the train. It was a curious moment of fate, but at least they had someone to sit with on the next train. While on the train, Sara told Yuzu about a girl she met earlier that day that had completely bewitched her. It was love at first sight. That just made Yuzu think more about Mei.
As Yuzu and Sara tried to catch up with their classes, Yuzu broke down about Mei, telling Sara everything. Sara was sure that Yuzu could fix it. Despite their best efforts, they didn’t catch up with their classes until they were back at their hotel. Ironically, they were staying at the same one. Yuzu met Sara’s twin sister Nina and then went to find her class. Outside the hotel, Sara and Nina saw the girl from the train station that stole Sara’s heart. It was Mei!

What did you think?
Why can’t they work it out? I can completely understand why Yuzu might be reluctant to go that far. Mei has switched between hot and cold too frequently and each time, it’s been Yuzu that bore the brunt of the emotional damage. Of course, with her empathy, she probably wasn’t sure that Mei wanted it so she would have been reluctant to make Mei do something she didn’t want to. Then, it’s easy to see why Mei would be upset. She finally opened up and was knocked back. Why bother opening up if that’s the way it’ll go? Teenagers really are complicated creatures.
So, this is where Sara comes in and she’s remarkably mature for her age. More so than Yuzu or Mei. I enjoyed the coincidences that pulled their story together and even more so with their love interests. Bizarrely, I had almost forgotten about this arc when I was trying to work out where the season would end, but this makes perfect sense. It was really good in the manga so I’m excited to see how well the anime pulls it off.
